card payments through ncca
« on: July 15, 2011, 10:18:22 am »
i see in the latest newsletter that the ncca has done a deal with a card payments company to take payments on behalf of ncca members on a commission only basis, anyone got any thoughts pro or anti on this method as an alternative to renting a card reader.

Sounds interesting and a good way for the NCCA to make a bit of extra lolly to re-invest in more public awareness perhaps. NCCA is something I'm still considering and the idea of them taking payment in this way is something that I consider a bonus... :)

Why on earth would you want a third party taking payments for you? A mobile machine is on £20 a month :o

Paul,
I was generalising to make the point that mobile terminals are only £20-ish a month
I think we pay £25 + vat with 123 send. I've heard of others paying a lot less by using their mobile phones, but I'm not sure people would trust having their details put on someone's mobile phone as much as they would with a conventional terminal.

Fees range from 2.3 % to 2.8%  if you have no transactions in a month you pay nothing,i personally think its a great deal, but i am under no pressure to take cards at this moment in time
but when i do i will do this.

just to be clear its not the ncca thats taking the commission they have done a deal with a card clearing company on behalf of members. i think it is a good deal for someone who only takes card payments now and again as you have no monthly rental charge, the down side is their commission is slightly higher.

knowone seems to know whether advertising that you take payments by card makes the phone ring more?

Maybe somebody here can answer that question?

i certainly get more EOT work and house move related work because i accept cc payments debit card payments are free to customers but i charge 3% to use a cc card so to cover the transaction charge.

i just generally prefer the card payments because i dont like cheques and running to the bank all the time putting money in   it works for me

Derek,
The first time I heard about mobile phone payments, I was a bit dubious and so asked every card paying customer if they would have paid that way if I'd put there details into my mobile. Unanimous answer - no!
Things may change tho :o

Have used my iphone for taking payments for a good few months now, not had one single customer question it, also take payments over the phone and never been questioned on that either,

Just mention this as its a real life example rather than someone guessing  ;D

Steve

p.s. just added another phone to the account, so in effect have two 'terminals' on the go for no extra cost   8)
