Hi all,

Right as some of you may know already we are in the process of starting up. We attended a prochem course today and my Mrs has been designing our website and we are having some flyers designed all ready for when we start in September. We are having problems sourcing any photos to use though - I wondered if any of you could point us in the right direction for getting some to use or if anyone would send us some of theirs, please??

Cheers Craig

Cheers GaryB,

Mrs had done that earlier today - 2 photos cost us £15 as came to 12 credits and they were extra small size, which is ok but still a bit much for what they were, some of em are really american as well. Am doing our upstairs carpets at the weekend so will hopefully get some good ones of them.

Garyj,

Will send you a mail - cheers mate

go to a carpet shop, buy and end of roll that will fit your smallest room, cost about 20 quid, make sure its a polly. lay down some polythene sheeting on your smallest room carpet then fit off cut over top. throw coka cola and soil on it, and leave to dry. set up video camera and take photos then clean it, film the stages of the clean and take half and half photo's. once finished rip up carpet and polythene sheet and bin. you now have a load of before/half and half and after photo's plus a video of how you did it, accompanied by a testimonial by your good lady wife. all for £20. bargain. and its all your own work. ;D

Passing off someone else's photos as your own is dishonest and misleading imo. Many of us had to wait until we had our own before we could use photos in marketing our services. Of course it depends on how ethical you want your business to be, but sorry. it is simply wrong to me.

Hi Dave - Think you might have misunderstood what I meant - I didnt want to pass anyones hard work off as my own - just wanted generic photos of carpet cleaning eg wand on carpet in english living room not before and afters as have got that side covered as have taken some already & doing more at weekend. Mrs is a bit peed off you implied we're not going to be an ethical business - to be honest it couldnt be further from the truth  ;D

Paying for photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's loads out there, just do what
most people do and copy and paste
off another website, mine if you want.
More than likely they've done the same
to get them.

And then get hit with a bill from Getty Images for £ 1500 -2000

Copy John's because he has just given you permission but do not copy any others unless you have it in writing.

I can remember seeing that quite a few years ago, it was an American company that were selling carpet cleaning post cards in Publisher format.

Agreed, unless there is some strange phenomina (sp) going on within the carpet cleaning world.....because there seems to be a lot of people all married to the same woman who has the same baby.  ;D

Doesn't matter though does it!! Your customers don't spend hours looking at other carpet cleaning websites around the country! Its unique to them and they are the ones you're marketing to.

Ok, I get you now. I didn't imply you were going to be unethical, I suggested that by using others photo's as your own work was unethical, as clearly it is. However as that is not your intention it doesn't apply to you. Tell your Mrs I never intended that implication.
It is quite a common practice for some CCs to use others before and after photos in their own portfolios, and anyone with a brain knows that, that is wrong.

Get a life everybody does it on here.
The number of websites I've seen with
the same before and after pics.
Don't even ask my permission just copy
them rather than pay for them.
Bit of common sense please.
Unethical!!!!!!!!!!!!

John,

I made the point earlier because Getty Images have hit some small companies with big bills and very nasty enforcement processes. It seems to be an area they are targeting.

Many web designers cut and paste whilst they are waiting for originals. Many times they forget and it's the site owner who gets wacked later on as they are deemed responsible.
