Terrazzo question
« on: July 11, 2011, 10:26:05 pm »
I have been asked by one of our regular Customers to quote for "removing water based tackifier adhesive (similar to F Ball F41) from Terrazzo floor"

I haven't been asked to restore the terrazzo, just remove all of the adhesive.

Is there anything that I should be mindful of and are there any products / techniques that any of you would recommend from experience?

As always, thanks in advance

It will take you ages to clean all your kit afterwards if you try to emulsify the glue.

Floor stripper works well for this. I usually trial a few different brands to see which will work the fastest.

What finish do they want on the terrazzo afterwards.

You may be quicker to just grind it off.

Firstly you need to find out if the terrazzo is laid into concrete or resin?  Then I can advise you accordingly

I just did a small test panel for a cleaning company, removing a couple of heavy layers of sealer from terracotta. I used the stuff i use to remove paint from buildings. Its sold as adhesive remover. The dwell time ws short and we tried a black pad, then a stiff brush on a floor machine, but in the end they had to scrape it off.

Adhesive remover from Chemicals Ltd in liverpool. Good stuff.

Sorry but what relationship does Terrazzo have to Terracotta?  Or did you mean to type Terrazzo?

Kevin,

He was asking how to remove adhesive from the surface, i assume they are patches of adhesive. I was just offering up a product i used to remove adhesive quickly and easily.

Thanks guys.

I am afraid that I will not have the luxury of testing prior to doing the actual job.

I am going to go with a glue remover, then scrape off with a plastic scraper followed by a neutral ph detergent rinse.

Thankfully it is only a very small area.

Oh, and I'll I'll take my trusty old wallpaper steamer and a rotary with green and black pads as back-up.

Thanks again
