I've a 60 psi pump for my trolley system, which I've just tried.

It spouts water out at a high rate of knots; so I've tried to restrict the flow by adjusting the hexagonal 'nut' at the top.  It didn't really work.  It just 'pulsed' the water out instead.

So what are my options of restricting or varying the flow?

Help!

Option 1...  fit an inline flow adjuster. Your pump will switch itself off ( cycle ) and on rapidly and probably burn out the pressure switch.

Option 2.. Again fit an inline restrictor and also a return to the tank to relieve the pressure which should stop the pump from cycling. It's a fiddly job to get right though.

Option 3  ( and probably the best ) fit either an eco flow or a Varistream Mk2. Much better flow control and will also act as remote on/off if you fit an inline on/off flow switch and also protect your pump because it wont cycle.

Hope this helps

Andrew

I would definetly get a varistream flow controller or similar, you will burn out the pressure switch within a couple of weeks.

Cheers guys,

I know what you're talking about because I've seen Ian_Giles's.

No wonder the guy I bought the trolley system from (second hand) packed it in after six months.  He must've been using hundreds and hundreds of liters a day.

He's given me around 20 x 25 litre containers and said he's got 20 more 20 litre ones if I want them.

I said I didn't.

It explains a lot!

Hi Tosh

I fitted a VariStream  Mk2 to my OmniTrolley.  My trolley was like your, second hand but mine had been fitted with a smaller 40 psi pump.  This pump works well as a straight pump but did not work consistently with the VariStream because it draws too little current and circuit doesn't react to it correctly.  Willaimsom Pumps are looking into a modification for smaller pumps but I haven't heard from them yet.

However I now use the VariStream with a Shurflow 100psi and it works perfectly.

I suggest that you check with the supplier of whichever electronic contoller you choose that it will work with a 60 psi pump.

The combination of a Trolley and the VariStream or EcoFlow will be an excellent system.

Good point. We also use and fit the 100 psi pump but I am pretty sure it works fine with the 60 psi one.  Worth checking though.

Cheers, guys.

Sair,

Would your eco-flow be compatible with a 60 psi shurflo pump?

Hi Tosh, I'v got a surflow 60PSI pump like yours.
The varistream works fine, wouldn't want to be without it. You have to make sure all your connections are airtight on the inlet side of the pump. I had a slight leak and the variflow wasn't  stopping when I shut off the flow. My fault for using different makes of connector, they don't all mix and match. I have tied a split ring 4 ft up the pole. No matter what lengh the pole is working at the ring is in the same place. I just bend the pole hose over and push it through the ring to stop the flow and the pump. If your hose is running outside the pole you don't need a tap. DAI

I would phone Williamsons but I am sure it will be ok - when I bought my 100 psi from them, they basically said they were just meeting demand for what a lot of people (includng me) thought was bigger and better, when in fact it wasnt about more power and faster jet spray rather the capability to pump up very high poles - they said the 60 was perfectly fine and better in some ways - or something along those lines - :)
I got the varistream at the same time and it's excellent and must save loads of water as you say
