Upgrading to 4040 ?
« on: June 16, 2011, 03:05:00 pm »
Having read a lot of the posts on this subject (4040), its time to upgrade, we just can't produce water fast enough now on the little 200gpd system....and getting fed up with water to tank, then tank to van etc....,  I know its not a major chore, but would just like to make things a bit easier and quicker.

Have been looking at this

http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/2400-gpd-high-volume-reverse-osmosis-system-40-membrane-p-610.html

Any comments, pros/cons ??

Like the idea of, its just plug and play, all on a stand.

I can get rid of 1000 IBC in garage, and fill tank in van direct from 4040 in a couple hours I should imagine ??.....or even fill the ibc aswell as back up ??

Just to add, could anyone recommend a booster pump as the one on site at over 400 quid, seems a tad expensive  :o
Any advice appreciated.

Thanks  ;)
If Carlsberg made window cleaners....I'd be one of them....lol

Don't know about the Pure Freedom one, I bought this some years ago: http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=235&osCsid=b7137b2eff878c53d8d3c80dbe78ad16

It produces water at 6ppm from input 350ppm at the rate of 1000lt in about 6 hrs

The booster pump I bought to go with it is a Clarke - available from people like Screwfix or ToolStation and cost me about £200

Thanks for your input Ian, would the one in my link not cut the mustard then ??

I assumed it was a 4040 as it has a 40" membrane, the smaller type has a 20" ??

Thanks for the link Lee, didn't realise my link was not a 4040. Best option to buy one from ????

any advice appreciated

cheers

I'm sure some of you need your eyes testing or to learn how to read !!!!
http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=235&osCsid=b7137b2eff878c53d8d3c80dbe78ad16

Its mounted on a 24" x 24" back panel, it also has a 20" pre filter, now that RO housing looks like double that to me? Maybe its just me !!  ;D

Thanks for all your input.

I'm assuming the 4040 hf5 is available at GAPS ??. Is it a complete system. I've looked on there and to be honest I don't like the idea of the tiny di units.

I have an 8 litre vessel which I can attach to a system, so part for part what would you guys suggest I buy to go with the vessel.

Could someone please advise what they see wrong with the purefreedom unit. It states a 40" membrane, I think the pic is of the 20" membrane unit, so why is it not a 4040 ??  confused :(

Thanks again

Fieldsy

sorry, being naive here, they are not DI units are they :(   doh !!

so, this one ??

20" Reverse Osmosis Kit with RO Ultratec HF5-4040 membrane
This kit is identicle to the reverse osmosis kit above but uses the new revolutionary RO UltraTec HF5-4040 membrane instead.

This membrane is ideally suited to applications below 50 psi or where quick filling times are needed.

The HF5-4040 has much greater flow rates at lower pressure without loss of water quality than all other extra low pressure membranes (eg FilmTec XLE-4040, Hydranautics ESPA4-4040, Osmonic Desal AK4040 etc..). In almost all instances this membrane will negate the need for a pump making it an economical choice for any who need good quality water fast no matter what the inlet pressure.

The response from window cleaners up to now has been brilliant - everyone has been amazed at the sheer volume of water produced from a single 4040 membrane.

Price: £573.00 (£687.60 Including VAT at 20%)

I had that one from Gaps, but only had the 10inch prefilters. You can then connect it to your DI container

Thats the idea, want to do away with the IBC really,

So, its the GAPS HF5 4040 membrane with 2 x 20" filters ??

so how does it differ from the purefreedom system which also has the 40" membrane and 2x 20" filters ( and includes a DI unit)   ???????

Thanks again

It probably doesnt differ that much. The pure freedom one is preassembled isnt it? and is more expensive.

I just preferred the service I got from June in the end and it was a bit cheaper.

Thanks Hedgehog,

I was beginning to think I was going mad !!, everyone saying its a 4020, but it describes exactly the same as the GAPS version apart from the DI vessel and pre-assembled. Seeing as I have an 8 litre DI vessel, looks like best idea to give June a ring and see what is cost effective (in other words, cheaper...lol)

cheers m8
