Standalone houses

Hi. my wifes business partner came up with this suggestion, so dont shoot me down in flames ...

Anyway, I was chatting to her about getting new customers and the hours of slog knocking on doors for new customers. She suggested that maybe I should concentrate on random houses in country lanes, that sort of thing.

She felt that most estabilished window cleaners go for large housing estates where the work is concentrated but maybe not the one off houses

What do you think to her suggestion?

I was discussing this with another wc yesterday. The problem is that your rate of houses per hour is so low that for me it's not worth it. That's leafleting mind, so perhaps knocking you may have a different view. It's a lot of paces for one leaflet.

it is a good suggestion just make sure you charge a decent rate, as mentioned it will involve travel and it won't be compact

Got to be worth a go, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got the same feedback as you are getting from the estates you are already canvassing, I do a few villages around and about and I see as many window cleaners there as I do in the town!. Could be worth putting a card in the village shop window or post office, if there is one, I did this when I first started and I did get quite a few calls.....

First class suggestion, most window cleaners will want a few in the same area so won't bother with odd houses.

My best work are stand alone houses. They dont have close neighbours to ask about price and they will expect to pay twice as much as you think!!

It's fine so long as you price them appropriately.

It's fine so long as you price them appropriately.

I think the question is more to do with the customer acquisition cost (time). I could drop 100 leaflets in 1/2 hour on an estate where the average price might be £15. However, to drop 100 leaflets along country roads to isolated houses might take a day. The average price would have to be £120 for it to be worthwhile. You can I'm sure work out other time/cost envelopes, but in my opinion, it's poor marketing effort.
