safety harness
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:21:21 pm »
where do you buy yours from, it for hooking onto eye bolts for ledge work on sash type windows. I have one but it is very heavy, bulky and I am sure the more modern ones will be better, that and mine hasn't been certified for years :o

I bought one of these for a specific job where I swept all the moss from a tiled roof and cleaned out the gutters.

probably ;D but at least he answered, on a serious note though some of the online options look, well not up to much, the one I have is solid with straps like seatbelts, and big solid anchor points, does anyone know the actual spec we should be using i.e. en 336 or ce approved

If I were you I would contact Smart Platforms, arrange a harness Course - less than a morning and then buy one directly from them.

Well worth it, just let them know Darran from Purple Rhino sent you.

The CSS harnesses are good. Ive got one, good anchor points front and back. reasonably comfortable too. I got mine through previouus employment as an installer with sky as thats the only one they approved. Not sure how much the harness on its own is but i got a complete kit inc ropes, karabiners, rope grab and cows tail for bout £250.

When you buy a safety harness, does it come with the leash thingy that you attach to the anchor point?

Some will some wont. if its a harness specifically aimed at scaffolders then usually they come with a short (30 to 60cm) lanyard. if your moving further than this you really need  2 (so 1 is always secured)

Steve, some companies actually ask for a certificate to prove you are competent to wear a harness, I know it sounds like a rip off but sometimes it can make or break you getting or keeping a contract.

I sure someone is just paid to sit in a office and make up ways of us all having to pay more just to clean a window  ;D

very true jmb, and refresher courses are generally required every 3 years! i had one company who insisted on me providing serial numbers of harness, ropes ect as well as certs. it all falls under the duty of care regs and both us (employee) and customer (employer) are equally responsible. its a minefield i tells ya!

yes I have mate and already have checked them out thanks, that is where my original one come from.

I just wondered where everyone else buys theirs and if there were better deals to be had, nothing wrong with mine to be honest, I just need a couple of new karibenas, however you spell that, but it seems that not a lot use them
