what do u think?
« on: June 11, 2011, 11:02:27 pm »
new customer rang me up ,i gave a price, few days later rang again and i gave  price again.  next stage is the clean, shes going out to work so can i arrive, clean and on sat day morn my money will be left under the green recycling bin near front door  .

first thing this morning i go round,no money and no answer at the door(curtainsshut)  so i go on my way and then return  2 hours later ,check the bin again and knock (curtains open now)  no answer

i go away, thinking i will collect at a later date as probably she has forgotten her promise

hour later she phones me, "i see the bins moved, you got your money ok?, im wondering why you didnt leave me change? "
"but there was no money under the bin "

"well,at 11pm night before i put it there ready for you  in a white poly envelope,a tenner note"

"maybe somebody saw you doing that"
"i doubt it,it was late at night"

"well ,i will come round next satday and get my money,in the meantime you might think of who might have got it "

"i doubt i will think of anybody "

 "see you saturday then "

" ahuh, mmmm, ,yerrrr ,  okay " (unsure voice)

it was her suggestion, the leaving it out, under the bin. i might be overanalysing it,but she said "i will leave it under my green bin " very quickly,as if she had thought it out in advance

Anyway, when i collect my money next satday ,i will tell her,no more leaving money out for me.  if i even sense a bad vibe ,i wont carry on cleaning hers anyway

Why are custies so unimaginative about hiding places,... 99 times out of 100 the key/money etc is under the bin!!!

Carrying on from Nats point Bobby, I know a windy that used to get custys to leave payment in a one portion size jam jar on a top window sill. It seemed like a good idea and if your money is'nt there you know it will be someone from this forum who has nicked it  ;D

It's your business and your payment terms, so why let the custie "suggest" such a daft idea and then agree to it.
If you are willing to go back to collect payment why didn't you agree a time when she would be in.
On line payments and envelope for you in the future :)

This is why I never encourage customers to leave money out. As I would be going to the house anyway, how long does it take just to knock the door and collect in person?

Sounds a bit iffy to me. Either she is pulling a fast one, or another member of her household may have known of the arrangement and removed the envelope from under the bin.

It's so easy for some people to stiff the window cleaner, 'cos he's at the bottom of the pile when it comes to their financial priorities.

If she pays up next Saturday, I would maybe give her another chance, but only if a more satisfactory method of payment is agreed.

John

update -  i got my money okay .   she told me she double checked and the envelope+ money had become  stuck under the bottom of the bin .   not sure if that was true as i probably looked at the bottom surface

ive decided that on my next clean there,i will toss a coin as i pull up in my van. heads i clean or tails i drop and never go back

On this occasion, why not give her another chance and arrange an alternative payment method?

John.
