....just charge it up until the light goes onto the green float charge then disconnect it ready for the next morning?ive always brought mine in and left it overnight charging.ive noticed it turns green usually within an hour.im just wondering whether the battery loses charge when  not plugged in even though its fully charged.

the reason im asking is that i could leave it on charge at the same time as filling up in the evening then disconnect it ready for the next  morning without having to bring the trolley inside(unless its freezing weather of course!).not much room in my flat and it would be great to not have the trolley at the bottom of my stairs if i can help it!!

Hi Dazmond,

If your battery charger is an Intelligent type, (I expect this is what you have as you talk about 'green float charge') then you can leave it over night as you suggested. An Intelligent charger will monitor the level of the battery and top it up when necessary. The backpack we have has one of these chargers and we leave it on all night.

We also have an Intelligent battery charger suitable for maintenance Leisure battery charging of motor homes which we use to top up the leisure batteries in the vans every couple of days. That is also designed to monitor the charge level of the battery over an extended period of time, ie over winter, and top up as and when necessary.

The battery won't loose any significant charge if left for a few days without use.

You should get a couple of days without charging. You could see what your controller is telling you the charge is before connecting charger and then check as soon as the light has gone green. You won't lose any charge overnight. The other thing to do is buy a fAg lighter inverter from maplins for about £20 and plug the charger into it between jobs when the engines running to top up if needed.

Yep thats what I do now. Extension lead to van, charge battery and once lights turn to green disconnect (rather than leaving it overnight). I actually do it every day I finish work now so doesn't take as long to get to full charge.

mine is all wired up to the van battery. never have to charge and its never gone flat. i have a volt meter next to my pump controler just to make sure. i got fed up of taking the battery in the house or running a lead to the van. just not sure if it will be ok to run 2pumps all day as will need to upgrade to 2 man set up soon
