Hi guys,

Im thinking of putting together another machine. im in no ruh so gonna keep myeye out for a cheapish honda GX390 and a nice second hand pump.

Are the GX390's any good? is going to be a second/backup machine for bad access jobs etc..
What about the yanmars? what kinda HP will i need, ive only found the yanmar at about 6HP.

Can you get different gearboxes to match different shaft sizes? and do i need a keyed shaft? 
im not familiar with the gearboxes as my current set up runs beltdrive.

Where is the best place to get gearboxes for the setup and imassuming a reduction gearbox is better as it prolongs the life?

Bit clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff but am mechanically minded and need to learn so i can fix anything that goes wrong.

OH, and i need a couple new guns/lances (the guns that you screw the lance onto the end of, so you can interchange damaged stuff) wheres the best/cheapest places. Cheers

Except they are petrol - go diesel. I got 7 seasons from a direct drive which does save a bit of weight and costs. look for a 10hp yanmar which being more torquey will run the same pump as a 13hp petrol. I have added a 14hp lombardini which so far I have been very pleased with. You will also need a 1" male shaft with a keyway

When you say direct drive, do you mean no gearbox? or is it just a straight through kind of gearbox with no rev reducer?

Yeah my everyday runner is a lombardini, not sure what HP it is, but its a van mount set up, full diesel engine water cooled with belt drive pump. But i need something smaller and more mobile.

Yes direct drive is just the pump bolted directly to the engine. Interpump WW965c
 gives 15 l/min @250 bar

Cheers mate, ill keep my eye out for a cheap engine. I dont mind buying the pump brand new, atleast then ill know its good for a while.

Anyone know a good place for interchangable guns/lances? cheap?

ebay- look for the old 'kew' type quick release spiggot, that way you only need to shell out for 1 gun and have all your lances interchange in and out of that ithout turning your machine off, or even down! you can get the guns for about £30 and then any lance you buy you can just buy a kew spiggot for a £10er to screw on it.
or maybe just go for the mini quick release tips? never bothered with them though so can't comment
