Prices up north!
« on: June 04, 2011, 04:16:14 pm »
Looking to expand my business to include window cleaning. I'll be canvassing an affluent north east area soon and need an idea on prices. Is it best to charge by the window or by the time it takes? Forgive the entry level questioning but I thought it best to ask on here first!! All comments gratefully received. It'll be good to have some expert advice from you guys! Many thanks in advance! John

as it goes a semi will be anything from£8 to £10. depending what location try a few canvasses at £10 then work from that price if they say its to much give them a discount for the first customer clean. remember also builders cleans are a lot more x3 the price of it. does this make sense or no.

Yeah I see where your coming from. I was thinking in the region of £10-£15 for the houses I am looking to aim at..

I dont know where the affleunt area is, we have a lot in Teesside, and inner city social housing, prices vary , but today in an arera, and 3 bedroom semi, and a new neighbour came and asked how much, and was quoted £3.00, I at first thought it was low, but on reflection he probably does about 4 an hour, so his point is double minimum wage, and looked as though it was beer money to me.
Yes we get £4 for fronts for areas today in Middlehaven in todays Sun newspaper, and £30 big semis, so it is possible

My auntie lives in a 3 bed semi with a conservatory in a nice estate. Her windy cleans all her windows inc conservatory for a fiver. We were chatting about it last time I saw her and she was laughing at how low priced it was. I asked what would be the max she would pay and she said £11

this is what we are up against odd job men or a relative, that will do it for a fiver. we have to put good prices to jobs or else we are doing it for nowt.

This is pretty much how it is up here. Beer money windys are all over here, £3 a house are all too common. Even in affluent areas, when you give them a price which is reasonable, you get the "I've just been quoted half what you're wanting". Try to explain the professional side of it but all people think about is price, especially in this financial climate!

It can work for you when up against the dole/beer money lads, a few years ago a windy ladder fell and caused £3000 worth of damage on a jaguar (car) and just ran away, never to be seen again. My mates got lots of work at good money, after they showed their insurance details, and the work was in europes biggest housing estate, so word soon spread
