Hi all

Im looking into buying a new van,  what would be a good choice for me and my 350 litre tank, i have around 3k to spend?

Must be good on fuel and have enough room to fit my poles in behind bulkhead!!

you will need to cut holes in the bulkhead in a combo to get them to fit, my combo had a cut out at the top for them to go through.

i've got a doblo cargo van with 350l tank and its really good, my old combo is in the autotrader i had a 350l upright in that as well did 100 miles to a tenner easy

No disrespect here but NO old combo will do 60mpg with 400ltrs on board, it would struggle to achieve this even with zero weight in it.

£10 is roughly 7.15 litres and at a cost of 1.40 a litre its doing 63mpg according to that site, so i was actually being very kind to the van saying 60. If it did around 90 miles that would be 57mpg...its safe to say its doing 55-60mpg easy.

But then again i must be lieing

I have a 1250 TD multijet doblo (same engine as 1.3 comboD) so I know that a 1.7 combo will not return 60 odd MPG with a full tank. I've had mine quite a while & not a few days.

I can't return 60mpg with zero weight in my van without cauzing myself to be a hazard to other road users!

Thats a different engine?? The 1.3's dont give as gooda mpg laden because they are smaller engines and have to work harder to pull the weight.

Theory confirmed: the more power you have, the smaller the penalty you pay for running laden.

Mine isnt the intercooled, just a 1.7 turbo, its not the quickest thing but i really dont care. Im not lieing lol, what would i gain from that? Yes i havent had it long but i have done 600 odd miles in it already. When i put £20 in it goes just above the quarter and it doesnt move till ive done 100 miles, then i get at least another 70 - 80 miles out of that...work it out mon.

what is the biggest tank to go in a combo i no 350 goes in easy enough, but what about 400 and where would you get a 400 tank that would fit as i imagine it will be quite a tight fit,this is the van im interested in buying next for fuel economy and cheap enough to buy

400 flat slides in nicely mate between the arches with a little room to spare each side, and theres a fair bit of room behind it to the back seats to, i have my collapsible ladders, tool box buckets and stuff etc, then youve got the space on top of tank etc.

No problems with mine...like i say mines not intercooled so its not the quickest thing on the road! But doesnt seem to effect it if its got water in either, you notice it on a hill tho

Ok, I'll work it out- (I also know about power to weight ratios too)

You say 60MPG, easy fully laden. So in real terms, this would equate to approx 75mpg unladen. It ain't gonna happen matt

My mate has the same van, an .03 plate 44k on it & he has a 400ltr system in it. He's had it for 6 years & he gets approx 65 miles from £10 worth of fuel @ 140 per ltr.

In fairness its not fully laden 24/7 with the water near empty towards end of day so im getting that mpg combined

when people work out their mpg, you cant say that you get 100 miles from a tenner, there is no way that you will get an accurate measure of what the mpg is.

If you want to really work out the mpg you need to fill the tank, zero the trip mileage, run it to empty fill it up again and work out how many gallons that you have put in, then you will get your exact mpg.

Sensai, im with winpro, there is no way that your combo is doing 60mpg, i would be willing to put money on it, but then i could be wrong, but why dont you fill the tank right up and work it out and let us know the actual mpg.
