Advice on WFP Hoses and Connections requested please.
« on: October 07, 2005, 08:45:26 pm »
I've a trolley mounted back-pack system and will be using this with an Ionic brush.

I've about five(ish) meters length of free hose from the base of the brush to the backpack - connected by hoselock.

I think (I haven't really used the system much) the five meters of free hose is long enough for the majority of my work, but would like the capability of adding another 30 meters of hose for certain jobs.

I'm guessing I just have to get the male and female hoselock connectors; plug one end into the backpack and the other into the male conector from my pole, and off you go.

Will my 45 psi pump be strong enough to cope with 35 meters of hose and what's the best hose to use?

I'm not very technically minded when it comes to doing practicle stuff.  Putting up a shelf is a real challenge.

Thanks all!

for the back pack you dont need extra hose it will just get in the way .If it is the sureflo back pack use the first setting unless they are really dirty then use no 2 setting to aid rinsing no3&4 are too powerful .i can do about 20 top windows with one fill of the back pack .i normally have a container filling up at the back of the car so i have refill ready .

Hi Dave,

Cheers for the advice.  Today (practising on my unsuspecting neighbors; not on my round) I've been using setting No 2.  This seems to give a good squirt for the rinse.

I think No 1 just seems to dribble out.

Should I use No 2 for the 'first cleans' by WFP, then revert to No 1 for subsequent cleans?  Or is No 1 good enough for a first clean?

Also, the backpack is heavy. After doing three houses, refilling twice, I began to feel the weight; the Geordie softy I am; so I placed it into the trolley I have, (a typical commercial (not DIY - two wheeled)l window cleaning trolley; I had to bend the side bars outward slightly to accommodate it), but a spare 25 litre barrel fits snugly beside it.

So, for the moment I'm going to treat my backpack as a trolley system.

However, I could use the Shurflo pump and battery with the trolley; as it's orgininal purpose intended, but I can't vary the water flow; it's a basic pump that will push the water out at its maximum capacity; and at the moment my water carrying capacity is limited, so the backpack is a good water-saving solution; I think.

Once I get a tow-bar and trailer; therefore enhancing my water carrying capacity; I'll be using the trolley with the backpack; doing all the windows via WFP; but at present I have a few areas where a longer hose would be usefull.  For example, houses that are set back on a slope with ten or so steps to reach them.

I'm also concerned about my increased semi-colon usage; I don't know if this is connected to getting a WFP.

Also; congratulations and thank you to anyone who has waded through this post and manages to answer it.

Sorry Dave, I didn't read your post that carefully.  I'm a Geordie!  Good advice mate, cheers.

I never thought of that.

I'd still like an extra 30 meters of hose though; just for some difficult to reach accounts.  I guess I could just use setting number 2; bend the hose when I don't need to flow; and I wouldn't have to 'hump' the backpack around with me.

I know what you're probably thinking; humping the backpack around will be easier than dealing with the extra hose, therefore don't bother!

Sorry to interrupt your thread.
Just to say; there are 2 things I like about you.
1) Your openness; honesty; and a bit of humility.
These kind of threads are going to be really useful to the likes of me; who will shortly be in the muddle you are; and will be able to work a few things out from your experience.  Thanks for being down to earth .

2) Your use of semi-colons; a valuable punctuation mark; often overlooked; often abandoned as useless.

How do you manage to make one fill last for about 20 windows ???
I usually fill it twice.
I must be overdoing the clean :-\

Just had a tap made for me from Williamson pumps so I can have a stop tap near the pole - that way I can run 30mtrs of the new blue  thin pipe while leaving the surflow back pack round the front of the house .
They even had it preasure tested for me to see it it was up to the job - cost £5 plus vat

now I just rap the 30mtrs of blue pipe round the handles of the sack barrow and take off what I need .

Cheers JSM I use the same tricoflex hose. Got 30 metres on a small enclosed hozelock reel on my trolley. That tap is just what I need.
If anyone wants to connect the 8mm hose to the reel ,they would find it easier if they undo the 4 screws holding the front of the reel on[ the part that revolves]And remove it.
You then leave about 4 inches of the original garden hose connected to the reel and connect the Tricoflex to that. I bodged a connector from an old gas fitting, it's held with jubilee clips, and covered with a plastic sheath that they use for cable connections. If you do it this way you connector will always be inside the reel.
Just put the front back on after. If you wanted to attatch the reel to the trolley as I did, you can put a couple of bolts trough the bottom of it before putting the front back on. Dai
