I've only ever used 6mm, and it's fine, but I've not had anything to compare it with.

I certainly would not be using 1/2" far to heavy...

i use 8mm but get the streamline stuff (o/d of 1/2" or less) i had to change mine from cleantech (lovely hose) as after
all these years it's finally spliting - i brought pure freedom 8mm - the o/d is about 13.5mm dia and it's really
hard to reel in when out over 40 mtrs...  :'(

I have both 8mm and 6mm, I prefer the 8mm for everday, and use the six as and when.

I always have a length of 1/2" in case I need to fill on the move.

if it is dirty it is fair game

1/2 inch is far too short.

I started with half inch.  Much higher flow as you say.  Unnecessarily high though IMO.  Been using 8mm for a few years.  Much easier to pull round corners etc.

I've been told 6mm be restrictive to water flow - but i bet it's easier to lug about

I have had the same 6mm hose from day one and its been fine. Mine has lasted well and should be good for another few years.

I don't have any problems with water flow with my 6mm hose.  I use a shurflo pump and a flow controller.

i had 6mm for a while it was nice a light use, you can get away with a smaller hose reel with a 100m, gone back to 8mm as it caused problem with essentially pure flow controller and have heard it puts a strain on the pump, i would go back to 6mm if the pumps and flow controllers can handle it

My choice of hose has always been 6mm Id (Microbore), well for the past 9 years anyway! I had the first reel made for me as none of the WFP suppliers could supply anything but 1/2" at the time. I then went on to purchase a pallet of it from a manufacturer which lasted me (and friends) a long time.

If you use a robust brand of pump then I have never found it has caused any problems for the pump at all. I have always used Flojet pumps because of their reputation and have usually got between 3-5 years out of each pump. If using 1 reel of 100m of Microbore (6mm) then the Triplex Flojet pump is very good. However I use a Duplex Flojet pump to 'power' 2 reels of 100m Microbore hose from the one pump. Used like this my current pump is 3 years old and going strong still.

Using 6mm hose will save a lot of weight lifting and manoeuvring the hose and if used with a good pump should not cause any problems at all.

The pumps we were using at the time were 60 psi shurflo with flow controllers from essentially pure, its was the flow controller that gave in and was advised the 6mm hose was the cause but that was a few years ago and there flow controllers hadnt been out long

alex...what is your flow like with your set up when you have two reels running compared with 100 psi shurflow and 8mm hose on boost running 1 pole

I have never done a direct comparison between these two set-ups. I would imagine that the flow rate is slower on my set-up than a single 8mm on a Shurflo. I find that the flow rate is perfect for me for standard window cleaning, fast enough to work quickly, but not too fast so that you waste water.

Do you use a flow controller on your set-up Alex. Just wondering what sort of flow rate you would get with 100m of 6mm hose and the flojet pump.

Pumps should last near enough the same wheather using 6 or 8mm, they are up to the job IMO.

That's not the issue for me though.

Power consumption & pressure are the two main factors for me & is why I use 8mm hose. Virtually zero pressure in system & my pump runs at tick-over ( number 1 on a digital varistream) to give a good flow. I can run it direct from van battery (45Ah) all day too.

What we all need is a hose which is 11mm OD / 8mm ID. Alex? ;D

I do not use a flow controller on my set-up, just the pressure switch. I get about 1.6-2.0lpm from the brush head with the Flojet pump and 6mm hose.
