shoulder pain
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:58:29 am »
Hi guys,

The tennis elbow has gone and been replaced by horrific shoulder pain,

The pain is from my shoulder blade and down to under my arm pit, and my shoulder seems to click every now and then.

Anyone else got this?

I've just dropped a massive clanger by spraying deep heat spray from my shoulder to under my armpit resulting in a nice burning stinging pain under in the old pit.

I think I'm getting old :-(.

Yes, all the time; mostly on my left shoulder - I'm right handed - and I guess it's just an occupational hazzard.

Are we all going to be cripples in years to come ???

You'll be able to spot an ex window cleaner cause he'll be the one only able to use the one arm ;D

that sounds bad mate.rota cuff damage.have you been to the doctors?

my problem is my ankle.still not healed fully from spraining it 6 weeks ago!at least im not climbing up ladders to every window to clean them!

sounds like you need to completely stop poling altogether for a while.

do you work 7 days a week dean a lot of the time?would you class yourself as a "workaholic"?this could be your problem as your not giving your body enough rest.

do you use the lightest carbon poles or are you still doing some of the high work with heavy poles?

this could be potentially the thorn in the side of a lot of us wfpolers in years to come if we dont get enough rest in between long days of poling.

me myself have developed very powerful shoulder muscles as a direct result of poling as i never go to the gym!all in the space of 12 months wfp.

take a break dean and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

regards

The left arm acts as a giude and pole support when lifting and its the small lift movements that does it. Got the RSI myself and am doing the 7 excercises I found on You tube which are starting to help. Start with the pendlelum one. You know your in for it if you have any pain trying to put your arm into a shirt or jacket behind your back when putting it on. Take immediate action and get pro help. I found that manpulation was no help but accupuncture was.

I would see an Osteopath Dean. "The shoulder bones conected to the..elbow bone" etc etc. Once you know whats wrong and the likely causes, you can work around it and be pain free. Like Dazmond say's, got to take some rest especially at your age  :)

I agree.  I had two visits to the doctors last year; the pain was unbelievable sometimes; especially when I 'jarred myself' (phnaar phnaar); if I slipped for example, and moved quickly, the pain used to double me up.

I couldn't even wash under my right armpit with my left hand; the movement was too painful.  I did what Trippy has to do and washed myself using a sponge on a stick.

I didn't want to see the doc, just in case he said my window cleaning days were over, and I've have to look for another occupation such as a fast jet pilot or something, but he gave me a course of really strong anti inflammatory drugs and it helped clear it up.

The good news (for me) was that the damage was not permanent.  The bad news was that because the shoulder has a poor blood supply, it takes a long time for these injuries to heal up.

But since I've started using the SLX, I've not had any problems; though to be fair, it cleared up while I was using the Harris pole.

It feels great now though.

I would really recommend going to see an osteopath. They will tell you exactly what the problem is, work on the problem and even give you exercises to help solve it, a good osteopath are worth every penny.  I know of an old lass that was going to have a hip replacement, went to the osteopath and then didn't need the hip operation after all because of the work he did.

The other thing is get the lightest pole you can, its false economy to buy cheaper and heavy.  Let's say you save £500 on the pole, but then have to take a day off every now and then because of elbow or shoulder pain and you spend out on medicine and treatment, you have more than lost your saving.

Another good idea is to look at your heights and have a couple of regular poles. No point carting a 25 ft pole around all day if you only use 18 ft on 90% of your work.  So buy an additional 18ft pole and only use the longer one when you need it.

These things cost money but time off with an injury costs even more.

Simon.

Yep shoulders elbows and hands all play up. On bad days after heavy work I can hardly get undressed. I have good anti inflamatory tabs and pain killers.
if it is dirty it is fair game

Wow, sounds great! Can't wait to go WFP!!!  Only joking guys. All our domestics are only ground and 1st floor so should be OK with 18ft pole. I've been lucky so far really, no aches and pains from trad. Tempted fate now. :(

rather than using deep heat spray mate you need to use a freezing gel like bio freeze as recommend by cyropractor's other brand s are available a torn muscle or ligament heals quicker when cool get frozen peas out as well i had few days off with bad back last year but bio freeze helped when i got back to work lasts a long time as well

Thanks for the replies guys,

Hopefully its just a strain and not the rotator cuff injury,

Its has come since I started some new powerwashing work where I lift a heavy petrol washer out of a high van to the floor, the work is weekly and there are 7 jobs so ive been lifting in and out at angles that im not used to numerous times a day,

Ive been checking the thread throughout the day on my phone and noticed the last post about using the deep freeze spray instead of the deep heat and i must say that it is a lot more comforting.

It certainly isnt cus my wallet is too heavy either  ;D ;D

Without sounding too sick either its good to know that others are suffering :o :o :o

Thanks again,

Dean.
