van signage and theft?
« on: May 14, 2011, 12:21:11 pm »
Im looking to get  my van sign written or get sing magnets for it.

I would prefer it to be sign written as it think it looks more preofeesional, but i am moving house and i will have to street park, and the road isnt out the front of my house, so my worry is, having it sign written will be an advert for what is in the van.

So will it sign writing increase the risk of theft, or are vans an easy target anyway, or would having sing magnets be better as i can easily romove them at night?

WFP isn't that common round my way so when people see my van they would assume that there is nothing but a bucket and a few hand tools inside, but I don't have wfp on the sign-age for that reason. where an un signed van could belong to anyone, plumber/joiner and may be more likely to be broken into for the tools.

What's there to pinch apart from your poles, which are easily removable at the end of the day and kept somewhere securely indoors.  I park on a secure drive, with padlocked gates, but I still take my two SLXs out of the van and lock 'em up.

I would be surprised if they wanted to nick my hose reels, pumps or flow controllers; which are fitted to the van anyway (not the reels).

So if it's only poles, lock 'em up when you finish work.

(I'm also getting some security cameras fitted to cover my drive!)

When I was in a previous life as a sales geezer I always had "hot hatches" Cavalier Sri sort of thing which the local toerags took great joy in "lifting" from time to time.

So I padlocked the gates.

So "they" used bolt croppers on the padlock.

So I used a much tougher padlock.

So "they" sawed through the metal of the gates

So I put a bar thingy lock on my steering wheel

So "they" sawed through the steering wheel rim!

It wasn't until I got solid gates with an integral lock that it stopped.

Then about ten years ago the main toerag got banged up and I went window cleaning and strangely no one was interested in nicking my Volvo 240 Estate!
It's a game of three halves!

I was told by my insurers that statistically a sign written van was less likely to get nicked.

There's probably less kudos in nicking a window cleaners van too; rather than say a plumber's van; maybe.

I mean what would you rather been seen driving around in?
