Getting thru the work
« on: May 14, 2011, 08:40:44 am »
Tried cramming a load of work into the day (25 houses)  but finding knackered the next day.

So going for the steady and consistent from now on (15 to 18 houses)

Keep picking up new work like u wouldnt beleive ...  all recomendations or people coming up to me ... not canvassed now for over 2 months (dont think I will now as wont get thru it) ... even put my prices up and they still keep saying yes and thanking me  :o .... all new clients are a min of £12 unless next door is a customer ... day of £10 quid min is gone

Even started eating a breakfast for maintainin energy before starting the day .... summit i have never done  ;D

Lad going to start taking van out on a few Saturdays but not wanting to start expanding to employ as too much hassle i thinks ..... if it carries on growing like this going to start putting more customers up in price and selling off some of the lesser paying work.

What did others do when they got to this stage ?

Sounds as if you have got it cracked Ian. well done!

I will use your example when this happens to me again. It's happened twice before, I dealt with it differently, and I didn't benefit from the experiences due to my oversoft nature!

Hi Ian
Im at a similar stage to you were im bursting at the seams with new work. I have put prices up and am going to do so again in 6 months time. I have also not canvassed for a long time but im still managing between 5-10 new customers per week.

I have negotiated a great deal with another lad to do part time work and im looking forward to the future. It isnt easy when you get this far and it comes with its stresses but if i was in your position i would ask myself what i wanted from the business!

Are you happy to do as well as your doing now or do you want to take it to the next level?

If it the latter its time to employ

Good luck Ian

this year (my 3rd) i realized in Feb was doing too much, both wrists aching 24-7,shoulder pain big time and work still coming in.Waking up wondering just what the heck was i doing

bit the bullet and took on a lad (partime) ,shovelled the big nasty jobs/long days onto days when he is with me.HOWEVER iv been through 4 lads so far(had DEAFx2 ,DRUNK ,now the IBS king )and still not found any who are normal. but i surely will be lucky soon

one thing i know for sure,i now feel in great shape, few aches , and happier and will never try to shoulder it all alone again (i think !!)

hey ian,

firstly, well done!  sounds like you're doing a fantastic job.

hope you don't mind me asking, but is that £12 min for a 4 weekly clean?  the only reason i ask is because i;m working off a min of £10 right now. i'd hate to be cheaper than anyone in this area, so was thinking maybe i need to raise my min.

i guess if you've got too much work, its not worth picking up jobs that are low priced anyhow.  i've got some jobs that i cant wait to put the price up on.  we canvassed them when i'd just started and some of them are woeful!

i'd love to compare!  are's are not so low, so much as some houses with bloody loads of windows, and loads of hassle, for £10...  you know when you just want to get a round at the start...   :P
