customer claims they paid?
« on: May 11, 2011, 02:59:04 pm »
Having a strange week. The latest thing is one customer I have been chasing for ages said they paid by cheque in December {small commercial gutter clean}.
I know they haven't paid, just went through my paying in book to make sure and it's not there. Getting a bit tired of people taking the P. What would you do?

It's their problem.
Ask them to send another cheque and endorse that one as their 2nd one.
It's the same old tale they try time and time again !!!!

It could be an innocent mistake.

They might have sent it but it got lost in the post but Jacobs suggestion of them checking their bank statement will confirm if it has been cashed.
For this reason I always keep a record of the names of every cheque I cash every weekend.

A fork in the eye will help this situation.

I have a photocopy of every cheque that I've banked in the last five years.  I would ask them what date their statement showed the cheque leaving their account.  Once they gave me the date, I would hit them with my photocopies.
It may well be a genuine admin error.  However, it's funny how no-one ever makes a mistake by making an extra payment (actually it did happen once but I credited it to the next clean).

I've had a few of those types of customers. It's odd how they say they've already paid only after repeated request for the money.

The last time I had that situation (for a £60 job) I told the customer what I thought of them and walked away. It's not worth the hassle for smaller amounts of money but telling this wally what I thought of him, that was very therapeutic and was almost worth the 60 quid loss.

Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Try money claim online. Its the same as a ccj done online. Dead simple to use and it works!!
