Using it today when it started cutting out, after fiddling about with the power lead where it enters the handle it would come back on so it appeared to be a loose wire.

Checking it this afternoon with the case off it was still the same, i.e. working with the wire held in one position but not another.
Checked and tightened the power lead wires onto the circuit board, nothing.
Now I couldn't get any power at all going into it. Took off the power lead, snipped a bit off and strimmed the wires to put back on. Still nothing.

Took off the circuit board and the power button switches to check and they appear okay.
Any ideas what it might be? And yes I've checked the fuse in the plug.
I know it would be easier to take it somewhere but just had 2 expensive repairs in the last week on different things and wanted to avoid another.

Spent about 2 hours on it now and had enough, guess I'll have to take it in somewhere.

SO you Took off the power lead, snipped a bit off and strimmed the wires to put back on. Still nothing.

Have you a meter tester? It could be the moulded plug if fitted

Sounds like a break in the cable, should be able to change it for about £10

Might be the flex just needs replacing mate if its an old machine.

Yep, to save messing about just replece the cable. What I would do firstly is to cut half a metre off the end connected to the vacuum and rewire. It's usually near here that cable faults occur.

Oh, do be sure to unplug first

Agree with Ian, it's usually a break in the cable, but quite a way back from the connection inside the machine, often near where the cable comes out of the handle.

Found a Dyson repair/re-build place less than 5 minutes away so I'll drop it down there and see if they can do anything, otherwise I'll have to hunt for a new one.
