My xtel pole has a seized section. How do I go about unseizing it. I'm assuming I shouldn't use wd40.

My xtel pole has a seized section. How do I go about unseizing it. I'm assuming I shouldn't use wd40.

This could be because of two reasons:

1. A build up of dirt and grit in the sections. Solution - is to flush from the base of the pole with a lot of water from a hose-pipe, this should free the sections up.

2. The joint stop tape has jammed and stuck against the outer section. This can happen sometimes in the heat that we have had recently. This is a little harder to fix. It is advisable to first of all separate the jammed sections from the rest of the pole sections (undo clamp lever, remove ring and pull apart) now you have just the two jammed sections. First of all pour a kettle of boiling water over the base of the sections, including up the base of the sections. This is to heat up the glue on the tape and make it release the outer section. When heated up try twisting apart the inner section and pull it out. When this is free then you will need to completely separate the sections clean them up and re-apply the joint stop tape. To do this use good quality electrical insulation tape and wrap about one and a quarter wraps of it around the section at the correct place. If the hot water does not work then you can use an electrical heat gun (paint stripping etc.) to heat the base of the section up - exercise great care if doing this though as you do not want to melt the pole!

Hope this helps.

This happened to me too last week. CLX, third section jammed solid. Took twenty minutes of twisting, pulling and swearing to free it up. The stop tape had rolled up and jammed between the two sections. {Wish I had seen Alex's tip beforehand}

Thank you Alex for such a full explanation. Fixed. It was 2. The tape at the bottom was destroyed.
