average mileage

Hiya Guys

Can anyone help me? ive taken on 2 domestic staff and was wanting to know what the price is per mile to pay them for diesel/petrol?

Are they using their own cars?

HM Revenue & Customs allows you 0.40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and then 25p per mile thereafter to cover the cost of fuel and all motor expenses ie. tax, insurance and maintenance. That give you a bench mark figure so you could offer them something based on this.

nooo don't pay them that!

Pay them say 20p per mile plus 5p per mile passenger allowance (if they work in twos), then every April fill out a p87, which they sign and send in to claim an additional 25p per mile which they will get as tax relief for the following year (the HMRC mileage allowance changed to 45p per mile this April btw)

At least that way they are getting half up front from you and the rest from HMRC - effectively 50p a mile.
