Public liability / Damage Insurance
« on: August 31, 2003, 05:53:44 pm »
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have just discovered this site. I have currently bought the extractor excel machine and have done carpet and upholstery cleaning course. The only problem is I am having trouble getting insurance. I have been in touch with companies and brokers who say that they will only supply public liability and will not insure for damages to carpets. Is this normal? My only other solution is to supply a disclaimer to the customer, does anyone do this. Your help would be appreciated! :)

Thanks Mike.

That is cheaper than I thought it would be. I will give them a ring. Unfortunately there is not a lot in Blyth, Northumberland.

McGreggor Lloyd will only insure you if you have an NCCA ( NATIONAL CARPET CLEARNERS ASSOCIATION) certificate, and to do that you have to do the course in Leicester. They are run quite frequently and will give your business more credibilty anyway, so its definatly worth doing ;)

Rubbish, I'm with McGregor LLoyd and I've not done an NCCA course.

Later edit: (Unless you mean for new starters to the industry)

HI JImmy.
If you do work for any of the utilies then you MAY have to have Public Liability up to £6 million, you MAY also have to have Products Liability and provide a duplicate of your insurance certificate. Dont be wise after the event, put a scenario to your insurance company ie. if I am taken ill away from home how long is my equipment insured for inside the locked van? But that is just your equipment, you might have something on hire? Say you were taking a customers rug home to clean, you might have to have a "goods in transit policy" and if you took it home and it got pinched you might  you might require a "goods in trust policy" .
