Hi Mark,
You will be fine pressure washing the house. It was my job for 5 years in london. Hot water usually helps with the remnants of ivy (i guess your talking about the little suckers left over and some light brown vegetation) We used to use acid to clean the bricks and found it did nothing to help remove the ivy. Just be carefull you dont cut into the bricks while your trying to carve the ivy off.

No problems mark, test patches are always good when it comes to bricks. Try and keep the lance on an angle, and get underneath the ivy, like i said before, ''carve'' it off...

when i did gardening i used to shift ivy using a sharp spade under the stalks and push lifting it off. some kinds of brickwork has mortar that is very susceptible to being blown out with even moderate pressure so you are right to do a test . good luck with the job.
