Those with guttervacs
« on: March 18, 2011, 01:06:46 pm »
What voltage have you got?

Do you use a generator?

Which vac have you got?

What height do you go?

What pole do you use?

Are they worth having as a add on?

Do you do put aside a day a week/month too book this sort of work in?

Cheers

Chris

Hi chris

i went for the 240 volt so you could use customers electric in case your power lead doesnt reach

A generator is a must if doing blocks of flats

imo you need a triple motor vac if going high than 3 floors, you can get away with 36 foot poles mostly but in eastbourne some of the victorian house are 40 foot plus and thats where a lot of your work will come from

Gutter vacs are worth having if your not to busy and have some spare days to fit in especially on a rainy day when you cant do window cleans!

I used to get loads of residential calls regarding gutter clean but sinces the cheaper systems have come out ive noticed a big drop in enquirys to the point i might trailer mount it and keep it for the big jobs rather dragging round 250kg

at the end of the day you can get a days extra window cleaning work to cover that spare day do you really need a guttervac?

you will need a pressure washer if doing high work as you will get the occasional blocked downpipe that you simply cant clear by ladder

hope that helps mate

I have DIY and S2's with generator. Works ok but it's a lot of stuff to cart about. Great until you knock an s bend off or an end cap.

1. 240 volt
2. always run from a genny - never custy's power supply
3. omnivac
4. 2" ali tubing as supplied by Omnivac
5. a worthwhile add on - but if buying the vac and genny don't expect to be instantly earning thousands a week
6. where poss i try to group gutter vac work togther for a single day each week.

if you get loads of enquiries then defo worth getting one especially if your taking someone on, its a lot easier with 2 people

regarding the poles im not sure how long an sl2 would last with the amount of debris going through it but ive had my omnipole set for a few years now and theyve still got loads of life left in them, ive got an sl2 but couldnt bring myself to use it for gutter vac although it would be lovely and light, i have had a quick look round for something like the gangster pole but havent come up with anything yet, i went to the show and think it was grippatank that had modified gardener sl2 poles designed for gutter vac but was about, just found the grippatank price list and there selling' gutterlite' 55ft  pole set for £1749.00 plus vat  :o

how will you transport it are you getting a bigger van or getting a trailer?

when using the gutter pole your not moving it like a window cleaning pole so the weight isnt so much of an issue although reaching awkward sections of gutter would be a lot easier

i would be crying if i used my SL2 sections for gutter vac'ing...

i have a guy who does most of the domestic gutter stuff - i only get involved in large domestics and commercial stuff
when 2 people are a must.
also with his workload it's easier to arrange gutter clearing work.

but a good add on service & very quick once you've had plenty of practice

ALTHOUGH

i do get asked from time to time to clear gutters on commercial jobs that i do windows on an if i didnt haveit i would have to turn them down and may risk them turning to another operator so i see it as something i need to have rather than something that i want to have or neccesarily makes me decent money. (yes you can charge well for it but it is bloodyhard work - give me a days w/cing in place of a days gutter vaccing anyday)

With hindsight I would never have bought one. It's too much kit to cart about, takes up too much space, bloody expensive. I would rather clean glass and subby the gutters out.

Hello,

That's exactly how we felt when we started in gutter cleaning with the  products on the market at that time. Hence the reason why we have developed our systems using the 1400 watt Clarke and 1380 watt Kärchers. These vacs and the generators they require can be handled by 1 man, they will easily fit in a van alongside a van mounted WFP system (we recently had a guy pick one up in an Escort van with a WFP system fitted) finally they are excellent value for money, the Clarke and a generator only cost £486 including VAT, Kärchers with full 1 years on site commercial guarantee and generator start from only £546 including VAT. That's a significant saving on the larger kits on the market.

I would say that great value.
