Reducing waste water
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:59:55 pm »
I`m running a single 4040 RO with prefilters,unpumped 44-50 psi going in,tds is 300 in and 7 out.

Very happy with it but i am not happy with all the water i send down the drain.

So,has anyone customised their water production to minimise waste or is it uneconomical due to membrane useage/replacement?

The best way you can reduce your waste is to run a second RO membrane. Run the waste from your first through the next one. This will roughly halve your current waste water. Do not worry about a higher tds going through the second membrane and shortening its life, it won't. They are membranes and not filters. As long as you maitain them correctly with regular flushing they'll be fine.
