hi david    in my opinion   removing those rust marks is the easy bit      stopping it reoccuring it the main concern   that looks like coated metal  so where the rust marks are comeing out might not be the point of entry   i would of expected a 25 year guarantee on a structure like that   i think that is a constructors/manufacture  issue   i would not touch a job like that with a barge pole or even with a wfp
or unless i wore spurs

There is a product called Bullet

Here's a link.

http://www.rustbulletuk.com

I hope this helps, I have not actually done jobs like the pictures you posted but I have restored many classic cars and it works a treat.

Ill just add here, depending on the severity it might be worth rubbing down then painting on.

You will still need to coat the metal to help prevent it coming back which is impossible but could last as long as 10 years so should be able to guarantee your work.

go to www.mistralie.co.uk then go to industrial section and click on exterior cleaning there is a product there called driveway cleaner and oil remover this will move it no problem just brush on neat leave for five minutes then rinse with water but make sure you dont get it on any stainless steel as it will stain it, also if any gets onto glass remove it immediately are it could also damage that. By the way dave how did the NVQ go.

Trevor, How does driveway cleaner/oil remover get rid of rust? Just interested as you need to stop the oxidisation process to stop rust from coming back.

Are those poles aluminium? in the pictures with just runs... of rust marks

Also as soon as it rains... from the roof where it is rusting will it not just come back if not correctly treated.

I understand that rust stains can be removed from stone/concrete but we are dealing with oxidisation which is something completely different. (Metal)

Cheers

it contains phosphoric acid and also hydrochloric acid which are both good at removing rust, phosphoric acid is safe on stainless steel but hydrochloric is a bit to severe and can cause stainless steel to rust, i have used this product on numerous occasions for rust removal from all types of surfaces including metal and it has never let me down, if you click on the product on the website you will see it is recomended for rust stains, the product also has corrosion inhibiters. if you do use this product try on a small area first as it is a bit to severe for aluminium brass or chrome, one product that is safe on all metal surfaces is under the kitchen chemicals section and is called stelite this only contains the phosphoric acid and the corosion inhibitors but doesnt have the hydrochloric acid this too will work but will need more agitation and maybe a couple of applications but is much safer and wont damage any of the metal surfaces in question.

Wipe your bottom with Andrex, and don't put it near your mouth afterwords.

Works every time with me,
