1st part time employee ... what steps
« on: February 23, 2011, 09:16:56 am »
Hi there .... normally post on window cleaning section but think this is a question for you guys  :)

Just taken on my first part time employee and not sure what I need to do with regards to PAYE, contract of employment etc. ..... have taken out Employee Liability Insurance and have paid him in cash for the last 2 weeks on the understanding that when I get my act together it will go thru PAYE system .... is it true that under £120 a week then he will pay no National Insurance or tax ??

Thanks in advance

Yes thats right, he wil pay no NI or tax if its under the threshold. Get him to sign a P46 though and keep it on file. Application form and starter form for NI and bank details. Issue payslips for the cash. You can buy a payroll system online called Payroll 12 for about £60. Does everything for you.

payroo.com is fantastic and free for small businesses. works out everything for you and all online so can be worked on anywhere. perhaps not a bonus for you but great imo as i'm often working on it from many locations.
