We cover mostly builders cleans and on with all but one customer ladders and stepladders are allowed.
All work has to be fully risk assessed and copies left, along with loads of other H & S doc's with both the site manager and head office. Insurances also have to clearly state that employees are covered for working up to a certain height.
For the one Customer that has a full ladder ban in place (including steps) we have found that once on site they actually tell us to use ladders. This is to save the cost of hiring specialist access equipment. Work that one out!!!
Ladders are always going to be a necessary evil. As long as they are not used for prolonged spells of working and the user operates within specified boundaries as set out in the risk assessment / method statement then all will be fine, or as fine as anything can be.
Just don't look down
