It's not so much using your real name on the forum (although I agree with the points made), it is filling in your profile properly.

If someone is asking for advice and you have no idea where they are from, you might be a little wary of helping them in case they are 2 minutes down the road from you.

Some will say that you should not be afraid of a little competition and give help where it is needed and in some circumstances this is OK. However, there is a dfference between lending someone a blower because theirs has packed in and offering marketing advice to someone who will directly impact your business if successful.

I have a good relationship with a couple of guys round my way and have helped and been helped by them in the past but I wouldn't expect nor would I offer help or advice if it were going to make putting food on my table more difficult than it already is.

If you want your fellow forum posters to offer open and honest advice then be open and honest with them by letting them know who you are and where you are.  Trust is hard to come by nowadays and is hard earned.  This is just a small way to help you gain it from the people on this and any other forum.

There endeth the lesson according to me, chapter 4 verses 6-8.
