Can you really claim your lunch as an expense?

You can't get tax relief on that   ;D

The only time I've had tax relief on food is when I've needed to do overnight stops for work - such as when I was a self-employed driver taking B and B or if I've done an overnighter in a B and B for a cleaning show.

You can't claim directly for food..ie bought a burger etc, however, you can claim a Subsistence allowance if you are working away from home and take food with you for lunch.

Check with your accountant, he/she will know what you can reasonably claim. I don't know the exact reasoning, thats why I use an accountant. As a guide my accountant allows £2,600 a year for Subsistence for two of us out working.

Hope that helps a little.

No you cant.

The only time is if you are away from home as the guys have said already.

If you can pop home for lunch then you have no chance. That includes an hour away.

Straight from the accountants mouth.

I think you could be right on that one Charlie.
The accountant was not happy at all with this question, especially when I told her it  takes me an hour to do 10 miles with all my trad gear! ::)

No, you`re supposed to have five a day.

I asked my accountant about claiming; but started going on about thyme and dates; and I don`t really eat that sort of stuff.
Yes,I get reciepts

Me too, but there`s no taste to them  :(.

I believe so - but not for your own entertainment.
Entertaining, and buying gifts for customers can be done (unless the rules have changed) but I believe there are strict limits on the amounts.
