Using hard rubber at the moment. Apart from the obvious signs of water being left behind are there any other signals that the rubber needs changing. Been working part time to supplement main income for 6 months or so now and changed rubbers about 3 weeks ago but business has picked up a fair bit in 3 weeks. Cleaned approx 20 houses since.  How many standard houses roughly would you expect to get from a rubber?

I change them round when they leave lines or streaks/smears.
If you find your scrimming more than your squeegeeing then its time to change it!

When it's cold it's best to use soft rubber. I've never found hard rubber really does the job apart from on the hottest days of summer.

Loosely based on 6 or 7 average houses a day, if you use GG3 or GG4 or something similar, a rubber will last 3 or 4 weeks. If you're using fairy liquid or any type of detergent, maybe a week at most.

I change the rubber when I find it starts to stick on the glass and it doesn't seem to be doing the job.

1 rubber normally lasts me 4 days work thats using it on each side,but all depends on the work your doing,if theres a fair few wood frames and your catching the paint/wood the ends knacker up quicker,once i see first signs of the rubber leaving lines or just generally wearing i change it as it starts slowing me down,checking if iv left any lines/streaks etc

bobby p , they all said i was the best w/c they ever had , makes me crease up mate  , if i leave a spot with my brush on a stick now , i get crucifide , feel like singin a bit of bob dylan , "times are a changin"

Oh and dont be so tight you lot a 36" piece of rubber costs about £2 you could replace your 6,12 and 18" sqeeqee rubber every week, got to admit tho i dont change as often as that just saying dont work with nackered rubbers for the sake of £2 it slows you down and is a false economy.

Graham , i am 99% wfp now, very rarely pick up the hand tool of the trade , bit ashamed but thats the way it is , do i take it from your name that you only trad ?
If so , what rubber do you use , the last batch i got was pulex hard , dont seem to be the way i remember , i get lots of kick back and small lines at end of rubber edge , have i lost the touch or is my rubber choice poor?

Soft rubber in winter and hard rubbers in the summer.
The hard rubbers go even harder in the cold, I use soft all year round.

I can remember posts on here years ago before the days of WFP when people would say they changed their rubbers every day, and turned them around at lunchtime.

Once a month, same as my pants.

P & F im 99% wfp too (6 yrs) just a bit of fun (graham from corrie, read my signature line) my name is Dan. I use pulex soft for shops and internals obviously. As you mentioned the hard stuff does kick back. when i started i was using hard for a year then realised soft was much better, and I would also make a rubber last more than vinces underpants

the best advice for the op is in jackals post, but i would definately switch to soft rubber.
