Fruit, any sugars and carbs are body fuel, if you dont have a strict training programme like running 60+ miles a week or cycling over a 100miles a week do not touch them........if you dont burn them off or use them up as body energy your body will store them as FAT.......resulting is much harder work to get rid of

pro cyclists consume over 8000 calories every day........mainly carbs

I'll explain the fruit angle though.

If shops weren't around and we had to source our own food, where would we go to get some fruit. Where could I get an apple?

Ah, is this is the Paleolithic diet, which to me sounds like another fad.

Paleolithic people rarely lived passed 30 years old according to the fossil records, which kinda undermines the diet!

Sounds to me that he has brain washed you lol. Matt my advice would be to buy a mountain bike and get out on a weekend. Fab type of exercise and the calories drop off also. ;)

I've got mountain bike, I go out every weekend.

NEXT!

Im in training for a sponsored cycle ride this year in India. I haven't been brain washed I don't think. Surely the proof will be if I lose weight.

I felt that what this guy was passionate about was quite a revelation for me and as I said he comes as a recommendation from a fitness trainer whose windows I used to do. The thread was intended as some sort of help or guidance for those that struggle with weight loss and keeping it off.

I used to be a skinny rake, now I'm 48 and overweight, I know all about DO MORE EAT LESS! it doesn't have 'miles' just like every other diet.

If I'm right to believe this guy it'll simply prove that the doubters on this thread are the gullible ones and are wrong to believe the hype from the food manufacturers.

Simples.

Matt. What the trainer has said to you is basically a low carb diet / lifestyle. Which is what Atkins is. You can eat carbs but you get them from veg ie broccoli. The principal is basically this:
your body has 2 ways of getting its energy. 1 is from carbs and the other is from stored fat. But it prefers to use carbs. If carbs are restricted for a couple of days the body will switch to burning fat for its fuel. And it does. Eventually more carbs can be introduced but never the rubbish food like white bread and white rice etc. or sugar. Well maybe now and again. But the idea is to look at nutrition. There is no nutritional value in 0lsugar. But throw sugar on a fire and what happens? Same happens in the body instant energy, and that's when insulin comes in to balance it out.
Have you noticed how many people are being diagnosed with diabetes? Mainly type 2,  unless its hereditary they are all overweight and eat to much sugar. If they followed the low carb lifestyle they could stop or reduce their tablets or injections. Dr atkins did this with some of his patients he talks about in his book.
same goes for high blood pressure and cholesterol all come down to healthy range.
It opened my eyes did atkins book much like the trainer did with you. Its all opposite to what we're told to believe.
Try telling the brainwashed low fat low calorie aspartame junkies. Were surrounded by fake foods i'm convinced it has something to do with the cancer rates.

Im just a window cleaner.

Stick to it matt and all the best for cycling in india

Matt, I'm sorry mate , but the guys taking crap. I'm a competative amateur cyclist and I eat all the so called sh!t that your guy is talking about , and the weight drops off if your cycling. A 2 hour ride can burn nearly a full days worth of calories. Sorry to sound patronising but if you are doing a charity cycle ride , the last thing you want to give up is carbs and fruit. I could talk all day about nutrition and training . Regards panorama.

If I'm right to believe this guy it'll simply prove that the doubters on this thread are the gullible ones and are wrong to believe the hype from the food manufacturers.

Listen in the 90s there was a fad that a lot of fat soldiers went through called cryogenics (I think that's what it was called).  It was a legal herbal tablet that you took if you were overweight, COMBINED with a 1200 calorie per day diet and weight training.

It was shown that the (expensive) tablets were useless, however the reduced calorie diet AND exercise worked.

Calories in less than calories used = weight loss.
Calories in more than calories used = fatty.

Now, you can dress this simple fact up anyway you want; palaeolithic diet, Alkaline diet, Cabbage Soup Diet; you name it, there's 1000s of 'em, but as long as calories in are less than calories used, you will lose weight.

And of course, your diet and exercise guru will make it sound more complicated than it actually is; it's in his financial interest to sound like he deserves his pay.

Tosh is 100% correct. Although the trainer may give you the encouragement you need, which may be worth £30 an hour.

Disagree about the trainer been worth his money, it's all down to will power in the end . Save your money matt and go to your local supermarket and buy Health and Fitness for cyclists, it is a quarterly magazine and it's full of nutrition and training advice. It also has training programmes in from novice to competative cyclists. There is also a range of running magazines that you could also glean advice from.

Matt, I'm sorry mate , but the guys taking crap. I'm a competative amateur cyclist

Im sure you are and Im sure he isnt.

I also have more will will power than you, guaranteed (and I mean that) just that dont dispense excess fat for you.

The thing is no-one seems to have read the first post in the thread thoroughly yet everyone seems to be an opinionated font of knowledge on the subject of fat loss, probably because that is what TV advertising focuses on, that is what magazine articles focus on, that is what food packaging focuses on and that is what the majority of NHS food management campaigns focus on. When they start focusing on diabetes everyone on here will suddenly become an expert on that despite still being a window clenaer for a job.

I ALSO said in the first post we have only just started to scratch the surface. Yet youve all made your minds up, its crap the guys a crank. Would you still be in business if you were crap?

I was really rather surprised this morning when I came on here to find the amount of postings since last night.

Now maybe it is the Atkins diet, Im not clued up on that, so those that have suggested it could well be right, but does that matter? Is there something wrong with the Atkins diet that is different to any other diet.

To me it opened my eyes. Sorry to dissapoint those that wish me to remain ignorant. I thought you had to cut out fat to lose weight, apparently not, if thats the case isnt that a good thing, a diet where you can have fry ups? Well doesnt that make them them all the more attractive? It would seem to the sceptics not!

And as for Tosh and his ramblings our inhouse religious fruitcake to hindu loser, well, he is now a dietician too. God help us, but what he has just said there doesnt add up because he has conveniently forgotten metabolic rate and how that changes when calorific intake lowers. AND how metabolic rate changes as we age. Dont compare me to a soldier, my metabolic rate is entirely different to someone half my age!

What about the 'survey', we can all refer to surveys, where rabbits were fed eggs in Russia in the 1940's? They all died from high levels of cholesterol. The conclusion being, eggs kill you.

Tosh you just like to dispel what others think or are doing by finding something/anything, on Google, that confounds what they say. You are just a party-pooper, looking for an angle.

Thats all well and good, but rabbits arent meant to eat eggs, they can'tprocess them, never have been able to; they eat grass, so its not surprising they died from them. Essentially wrong conclusion which has stayed with us ever since.

And of course any one that we pay for their services we like to think knows what they are talking about, but that deoesnt by definition mean that they dont.

I said in an earlier post that I thought it was useful to post this as it could help someone, Im only trying to get fitter to be able to do a sponsored bike ride for a good cause (a cancer charity).

And in that light if you havent got anything constructive to say feck-off.  ;D

matt i do alot of mountain biking mate, and dont eat the healthiest of diets although im working on it, and i like my beer too, but i can guarantee you 10000% that if you start rocking the miles on the bike, on road or off , you WILL lose weight, and its low impact not like running which hammers your body, i am just starting back training on my bike for a off road coast to coast ride in august, 210 miles accross lakes, dales, and north york moors, will have climbed the equivalent height of everest after 5-6 days :) and i will lose some serious weight, its easily burning 6000 + calories a day

so get on the bike !!

also you do have to eat well obviously but dont cut out carbs for bike riding you will feel ill!!! your body NEEDS carbs for biking, before and after

i train with one long ride, 30 miles off road or double or more on road, one interval training session ie an hour doinghill repeats and one medium ride, ie 2 hours at a pretty good pace , plus i play football twice a week to cross train, and weight falls off :)

what ride you doing ??

Matt, you can do all the ad hominen attacks on me that you like but I've had to lose weight on numerous occasions for sports.  When I started boxing I weighed in as almost a heavyweight but had to get down to light middleweight.  It was the same for judo.  I know how to lose weight.

Just over the course of last year I reduced my weight (after gaining loads rapidly after stopping drinking and shot gunning Mars Bars like there was no tomorrow (which coincidently there doesn't seem to be)) again by cutting out most of the rubbish I was eating, having sensible food portions and plenty of light exercise (I've a dog and we must do about seven hours a week walking).

You don't have to worry about metabolic rates and what people ate 1000s of years ago; keep it simple, mate.  ;D

Exercise and reduced calorific intake  (plus some patient acceptance) = weight loss.  How could it not be so?

Your the one who was doing that, I never mentioned any diet from 1000s of years ago, it was you.

In fact it was so ludicrous a post I thought you were on a windup, now it seems you meant it  ;D

Tosh, I dont proclaim to be an expert, I also dont go googling for results of various surveys to mention them that fit my thinking, I do know however that metabolic rate influences how well we process food and that it changes as we age and it changes according to our lifestyle.

You dragging up some survey from the past regarding soldiers isnt a true comparison by any stretch of the imagination.

OMG!............................... I cant believe Im typing this, Im not getting into one of your 'discusions'.

This thread is about losing weight.

Thanks for screwing it.

Locked.
