Hi

Im looking to get my self a gutter vac in the next week or so , im just unsure whether i need the high level pressure system that goes with it ?
If so can you get away with a domestic one rather than a commercial as they are very costly and weigh a ton .

Commercial one to be honest is a waste of money if your doing gutters only

I would convert a domestic one as they are good enough for the job.

the industial one I have can be a nightmare, weighs a ton, and does not do that much of a better job than the domestic one I have

Someone on here must have converted one for gutter cleaning(if you have add some links and pic)

If its the pressure washer you are talking a domestic will do the job just fine I Have always used a domestic washer with great results.I clean decks with a 100 bar home lite electric washer.

I was meaning for gutters, there is massive comparision with a commercial pressure washer and domestic on patios, flooring decking ect, domestic ones do not do the job nearly aswell, I used a domestic one for years and started to hate getting the jobs.

Thanks for the advice on the pressure washer , looks like i save a few quid and get a domestic  one .
Any advice on a generator ? the one i saw at omnipole was a very heavy beast for one man to work with ,
is there a lighter one that will do the trick .

i wouldn't bother with a domestic machine. i would go for a cheap petrol washer. by domestic i guess peopler mean electric? petrol will be self contained.

i have a 15 litre a minute honda and the pressure is far to great for gutters. i need to look at a lesser one too

luke, as Steve cm has just said, get a small petrol pressure washer (small as in your able to life it in and out easy) the one Stve has is the same as might and I swear it is no good me lifting it in and out the van it weighs about 90 odd KG

Generator for gutter van need to be man enoguh for the job, meaning heavy.

Other thing you could use is a transformer, but that means customers need to give you a socket to use.

You need the monster generator to power the gutter vac particularly if you use Omnikacs 4200w version.
i use an electric 6l per hour pressure washer that sucks from my tank of pure if needed.

This Gutter business is not straight forward , i just hope that its worth the money spent on all the equipment and its not overly hard to do .
Are you guys earning more money than cleaning windows ?

some gutter jobs are easy. Some are pigs! overall i make more money cleaning windows but its a nice add on. Just had a full exterior clean confirmed for next week at 225 quid so a few of them it soon bumps things up!

Windows are easier, cleaner and more consistent. Gutters are a pain in the backside, filthy disgusting work and require stupid amounts of equipment to do within health and safety guidelines. They can pay well if you like that sort of work and are not restricted to better weather.

Gutter cleaning is hard dirty work and I have done a fair bit of it.From the start it is one big learning curve,it's not as easy as it looks even using a vac.sometimes the vac won't touch  full heavy compacted gutters.In the beginning I would quote cheap to get the work,but you end up being a busy fool!so my advice would be firstly make sure you look in the gutters and then quote and don't be afraid to quote a good price.

I use my old domestic pressure washer and it works fine but I am thinking of buying a petrol one.Nothing too big or powerful though.I don't think you need it.

I've been charging by the metre for gutters but a client has asked for a day rate.

How much would you charge for 2 men?

I would just price the job as is and say the job is priced per job not on day rate as would work out far to expensive and decide to give a day rate as that is not how your company works, because all they will do , is call round ask anyone what there day rate is and go with the cheapest. gutters can be a pig or a blessing.

you could aways say to them please come back to us when you have found the cheapest day rate and will deside if we would like to quote the job

Do you guys lift the generators by your self ? or are they strictly a two man job

Mine's bolted in a trailer. No way could I hump that in and out of the van on my own. It was all I could do to get it into the tipper trailer on my own.
