just got in from the cold fitted the new scrfewfix door mounted  hose reel

i think this will change WFP as we know it , like micro bore, the L5, SLX etc

like the fogwash - i need to come up with a name for my idea - any suggestions ????

easy screws onto back doors freeing up floor space, swivels out if needed, or stays put on back door , build wise , a good bit of kit , easy as good as the normal metal reels that we have all used , one plus , its all metal so no more split spindals when the frost gets to them like we all have had in the past .

Best £33 ive ever spent for work .
pictures on my site here --- http://www.jsmcleaning.co.uk/page6.html

john how much and what size hose have you got on it?

I had two of these fixed exactly where you have them and initially they worked superbly.

They will bend at the elbow (as mentioned) and this will cause the metal at this point to split. They bounce in transit (slightly) because the hose reel is too heavy for the elbow.

I cannot remember how long I had mine but the second one was strengthened on the elbow by a corner plate welded on.

For the price they are a bargain but I would weld a corner strengthener on it now before you get a flooded van!

good to see someone done the R & D for me  ;) , like i say i will put a bracket on the frame near the hose arm to stop any flex to secure the whole reel - then just use the van door's to point the direction  i need the hose reel facing - my merc van doors flip right back open so wont ever be a problem

full working test this morn , ill let me worker loose on it , if i see him swinging on it  .................... he's sacked ....... ;D

John

One of the other problems with them is that they are general use and not up to being pulled in and out as much as window cleaners use them.

The rims on the hose reel came off on both sides, on both hose reels - easily fixed with cable ties and the winding handles got really loose, quite quickly.

I thought they were the business when I first bought them but have spent a few quid on two proper reels and I am gladly rid of them.

Good while they last but completely crap when they start getting some hammer!!!

Nice, but an enormous trip hazard. If people have sued over pole hoses, this is a no brainer.

Have you seen how James May hit his head on Topgear? The pedestrians will be like that when you pull the hose around the corner.  ;D

no more of a  trip hazard than any other hose reel in use !!!! ??  ???  its not a skipping rope lol   anyway like most REAL window cleaner's  i have full public liability insurance just in case my hose gets rapped round someone's neck .

1st day - all went well worked just as it should , saved space in the van , tho it will need the arm screwed to the back door as well as Rob said , it was slapping the door as i drove - so this fix should stop any wear over time , as it wont move , the handle issue - its a wooden rod , god forbid it gets wood worm, im sure i can pinch a plastic one off my mate gav's hose reel when he aint looking ...  ;D

nuts comming undone on reel - easy fix with locktight

lol still think its the dog's goooleys - buy and try  ;D

You could fit it in the back of van to van side, that to would save space, i like it mate, nice idea.

Reels are definatly too big and get in way!

Unless I'm mistaken with your setup, your pulling the hose straight off there right? No rollers or anything? So when you are pulling the hose it will be about waist high for a good couple of feet ie. pavement? Normal hose reels don't do that, not if you take it out and put it on the ground.  ???

think you thinking too much--  lol in the 8 years i have been WFP ing i have never cut someons heads off of tripped them up lol
how long doe's it take to pull a hose our ?? -  20 seconds max - 40 if you gav lol
part of being a good window cleaner is looking before you pull out - motto to learn for monday - "" if there's people about - dont pull the hose out " then you will be fine

any hose that comes off the reel will be on the ground like a normal hose reel --- not unless you using that lighter than air water that floats in the air --- than you will need to put the cones out  ;D

John, just seen your address, I did all that estate when they were still building , sold that and the Anwyl estate off STasaph avenue for the first wipe, £650.
That was years ago, but I'm sorry I ever sold it now.
I canvassed most of the estate one sunday, nobody had a window cleaner, house after house was yes please. Happy days.

I have had one of these on my wall for the garden for around 18 months now,

and its fine for using now and then,

my mate put one in the van , and it dropped to bits in 3 months....

and swung everywhere whilst driving.

as said further up the post Gaz ----

mines fixed tight to the back door so it cant move at all - you now use the DOOR if you need to swivel it round .

all it now does is wind the hose in in a space saving way  ;D

one thing i have noticed - its a great height to wind in , no more leaning in the van to wind in or bending down on the floor, having to lift up and put back in etc etc .

I showed Jeff today and he was quite impressed,

i'll post pic's of the mod i did to hold it to the door soon - it's simple

is it my but in them pictures does it show a gas bottle unsecured and above saying professional ?

Sorry to point that out, but someone has to.

Value your life, your driving round in a time bomb.

Reel idea could work if a little lower as trip hazard at that height, or do you have a clip below ?

Happy new year fella
