Water Freezing
« on: September 26, 2005, 11:03:15 pm »
I'm sure i saw a post about this before but can't find it.

Now winters on it's way and I've not long started with WFP how do you stop the water freezing whilst it is been filtered. I suppose it's ok if you do this in a shed or garage but mine's outside.
I'm sure i saw a post saying putting some sort of anti-freeze into the water after in is filtered but wouldn't this cause problems whilst cleaning.

This will be my first winter with the WFP so just wanted to get any info i could as i never thought about it before.

If it's outside try putting lagging jackets around it and fit those slip on pipe insulation things,

Better still build a box (or shed around it)

Or buy some of those cavity wall insulation (polistirin (bad spelling)) boards and protect the tank.

Or even bury the tank in the ground you only realy have to worry about protecting the top then.

The main problem though will be the pipes not the tank as ice will only form on top but the pipe can freeze solid.

My main problem in the winter are the pipes in the van even after lagging and protecting them they still freeze,
most mornings after a cold night I take an extenshion power lead to the van and put a fan heater inside for about an hour before I leave (lovely warm van) and warms the hose up.

The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

Or move to St Ives in Cornwall

I'm off for weeks holiday to St Ives end of October.

I'm not far from the coast near Torquay & Teignmouth but it freezes here.

Been St Ives quite a few times but not this place.
Thought about moving there quite a few years ago but a lot of family businesses around and when talking to people got the impression it would be difficult to get work straight away.
Love the place though.

I'll be able to check a few windows when i'm there and see how good you are ;D ;D ;D

There is no problem with work for those who look and want it .
I came down here with no money and no job just an adress on a piece of paper ,a van full of furniture  and the wife and kids.
best  thing i have ever done.

look me up when you get here . its not the best camp ,but the kids seem to love it
