i would not fit a 27 inch horizonnal its not reccomended go for an 11inch if its 27 inch vertical its ok

A 14" immersion fitted into the top of a domestic tank won't heat much water, that's why they make longer ones. There again, a 27" fitted horizontal in a domestic tank would be too long & hit the opposite side of the tank rendering it useless.
depending where you are fitting it and what tank you could find a 27 inch hitting a central baffle
