l5 reel probs
« on: December 18, 2010, 08:11:09 pm »
ok from my l5 to the hose reel i have red washing machine hose with a metal red hozelock on to the reel. but everytime i turn of the water flow from the brush end the red hozlock does not pop off but just seems to build pressure enough to move it slightly to stop the flow and i have to go back to the van and push it on again.
any ideas how i can stop this happening??

buy a new hozeloc and turn your varistrean down to the min pressure, if you use one that is.

ive a analogue vari, and you just turn down a dail inside, but the digital ones, you have to hold a couple f buttons down or something.
there has been a post on here before, on how to do it, if you do a search.

If you set your pressure to 60 psi or so the heater will work much better & your pump will last longer.
60psi is still enough to get water up a 100' pole with ease.

Yep,..  the L5 has a minimum startup flow rate of about 2 litres per minute. Turning the water flow numpty on the L5 to minimum helps,.. you can also restrict the water flow at the outlet by inserting a tap washer into the fitting. Creating a bit of back pressure in the L5 will allow it fire up a bit sooner.

Could the hot water soften the plastic connectors enough to let them pop off?
My problem turned out to be the male connector on the reel spindle, changed them over to metal and the problem was solved.

Yes,.. I always recommend brass connectors on the hot side of things.

is this a digital one, if it is then start the pump then press and hold the up and down button at the same time this then flashes the cal  sign using the down button press this to a lower setting when you have the desired setting press the horizontal arrow, you may have to adjust a few times to get the desired setting as too low a setting pump cuts out when using a long hose.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

If its an analogue (turn the dial) type flowmaster,...

On the bottom of your pump, (the black plastic bit) there is a hole that an alan key fits into. Just turn the alan key to adjust the pressure. I'm not sure which way to turn it,.. so before you adjust it, start your water flowing & time how long it takes the pump to stop when you stop the flow at the brush. Then turn the adjuster & repeat the timing. You want to reduce the time it takes for the pump to cut out.
Once you know you're adjusting the right way, keep turning,.. a 100psi pump can only be adjusted down as far as 60psi.
