The Brodex kit for £895 is for a DI - soft water system - Staffordshire is a hard water area & so you would need an RO system or mountains of costly resin.

It's easy mate. Get yourself a tds meter and test your water. Anything over 50/60 you will need an ro to filter your water. That means you will need to connect it to your mains and have a holding tank if possible.

Under 50/60 and you can DI only which means you can fill your van tank with tap water and filter on demand as it were. I know there are variations but that is the general gist.

After that you need a tank (as big as your payload will allow), flow contoller (varistream and loads more), pump, 100m micro/mini bore hose, di vessel, hose reel, brush and pole. Get that and you have the basics.

Hi, i had an idea of storing water at my house, i live on a farm so i have loads of space to store a tank and an RO system to make pure water. So this is what im thinking, ill buy a 400lt tank for my van and fill the tank up from my static tank to the tank in my van? dose anyone see a problem with that? will that work? it means i could store loads and loads of pure water and just fill the van up when needed, thanks =D

That's how I do it CJ.  I have a static tank at home to store water that has gone through the RO and DI so ready to go.  Just put a transfer pump in your static tank at home to pump the water through a hose into your van tank.  Simples.

Some people who use a static tank store water that has gone through the RO only.  They then fit a DI vessel on the van and polish the water on demand before it goes up the pole.

I prefer to have it all ready to go and keep all my purification kit at home but it's just personal preference.

Read as much as you can on this forum it will help you to get setup for sure.

Cheers, Mike

Any advice on the static tank, where to buy from please.

So the tank that would be in the van only needs a pump then is that right ? What is a DI ?

Keep your eye out in the buy and sell equipment section on this forum for people getting rid off their static tanks.

The tank on the van will need to be connected to a pump and a flow controller.  After the flow controller comes the hose reel which then connects to your pole.

On a basic level DI is a polishing resin which is used to remove dissolved solids from the water.  It is used as the final polisher after water has gone through the RO to bring your TDS reading down to 0.

If you live in an area that is below 50ish TDS out of the tap you could probably get away with just using a DI Vessel.  Very straight forward to setup as you litterally connect your DI vessel up to a tap.  The water that comes out of the DI is then ready to go.

So if my tap water was very high, would a good RO system be able to get it down to 0 alone?
Also if i was to store my water in a sealed tank for afew days would the TPS rise?

thank you

No you will need a DI vessel also as the RO will not get the water down to 0 alone.

If your water has a high TDS reading you will need to pass it through an RO then DI vessel to get it down to 0.

Once the water is stored the TDS should not rise in a few days.  Not in my experience anyway.

would a RO system alone get it to a level that is good to clean with? then in the future upgrade?

A DI Vessel is relatively cheap to add on in comparison with the prices of the rest of the equipment.

Maybe some use just an RO if they get their water down to around a 10ish TDS reading but I would put that through a DI still.

possibly but your then taking chances  best to make it 0ppm a di vessel and some resin is not that expensive you could even find one second hand, if your going to store water on your farm make sure you keep whatever tank you use out of the sunlight you can pick up cheap 1000lt ibc tanks at a number of places.
