Starting Out
« on: December 15, 2010, 01:33:44 pm »
Any advice please on starting out ?

I want to get a van and combine WFP and Trad. I have a garage with water supply. Should I set something up in there so only need to take the pure stuff with me and what should it be that i set up. What sort of van is good and should I get a trolly also.

I am delivering leaflets at moment but not knocking as its too bloody cold for people to be chatting with me at the door.

I want to be ready to go after xmas I have 15 customers so far and I know its not much but we all start somewhere.

I have about £4k to start out so dont want to blow it all on crap and wish I did it different so any advice good or bad will be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi leeroy,

good on ya for starting out and giving it a go,its more than doable on your budget, as to information on starting out its all been said a million and 1 times before on here and the list of information you will need is endless, your best bet is to go back 3-4 pages on the forum and look at the info given to other new starters and then raise specific questions about the bits your unsure of.

Thanks been reading these posts for a while.

This might sound sad but I actually want to be a window cleaner. Not because I have to do it but because its something I want to do.

As I drive around I see windows everywhere and think I can do that one and that.

getting 40,000 leaflets printed for £650 from Printing.com a link from this forum.

if you havnt already got a ladder heres one thats great

not so long ago ,i came across what is an excellent ladder-the YOUNGMAN DIY100 ,9rung double.

before this i had used either too heavy,(LYTE trade)or too flimsy(lyte diy)  ladders ,but this youngman is light on the shoulder yet sturdy so feels safe. they are for sale in Wickes £60

i can carry it all day and its still my friend

I would have a think about what kind of work you are going to go after. This will have an impact on the size of tank you need and therefore the size of van.
Don't get too hung up on price, have a minimum for a three bed semi and then when you get the hang of things you will be able to see how long any property will take you to clean and therefore price up accurately because you will know how much you want to earn.
I would always charge double for the first clean.
Check the hardness of your water first...
