insulating van tank
« on: December 11, 2010, 02:33:20 pm »
I can fill my van tank direct from the house hot tap via my DI. I was thinking of building a plywood box to fit the tank in, but....the box will be 4 inches oversize all around with a hole cut out for the lid. I intend to then fill the space between the tank and the box with foam insulating, like the house cavity stuff. I think this will help keep my water warm all day long. Can anyone add to this or see any downside?
Cheers

We use this:

Only just fitted it though so not sure how well its going to work.

Got my tank insulated with silver bubble wrap and had to fill from combi boiler for 3 days until pipework defrosted outside. Kept the water lovely and warm in the tank with it insulated.

Sounds good to me fellas - I did mine 3 years ago with a mixture of space blanket and 2" polystyrene all encased with plywood. Toasty!
It's a game of three halves!
