Isopropy Alcohol
« on: December 08, 2010, 07:35:17 pm »
not to be drunk in these bad times . does anyone use this . was given some info and prices today .ive since looked into it .quoted that 10%alcohol to 90%water will stop water freezing down to minus 3.so 50% alcohol=50ltr 450ltr water to make 500ltr for water to be able to work in -3.then look at price cheapeat for 25ltr £60del including vat ,not bad .but this make it £120 to maker 500ltr of workable water is it worth the aggro.

if any one uses this method  can you let no if my working out r right

Hi, yes I use it when it gets this cold. Certainly helps stop water from freezing too easily.
I put about 300ml into my 400L tank.
It leaves tiny bubbles when your cleaning with it, but dries perfectly clear.
It also helps rinsing on Hydrophobiic glass too.
You need to get 99% pure, had my container for about 3 yrs now & still loads left.

So 300ml in 400ltr tank , do you empty your system at night or is it simple the water doesn t freeze also you work in -3 with no problems .I was quoted % buy a tech bloke in bridgwater where they maker this stuff your mix (%) look very low but he did say he nos  no windy that uses it .

300ml in 400litres is not enough. if you put in around 30litres then you will be in the area where physics will take effect.

As for the iso in the open air it will evaporate...

These alcohols in closed systems are great but in the open air it will evaporate.

I use methanol for the production of bio-diesel and I buy 3x 200litres vats a time....cheaper in qty.

Cheers
Dave.
