It's the grey spindle connector that's duff the hoselock connectors will be fine. You only need an air lock in the system to over pressurise the lot and blow the connector off. Once it's blown the spindle connector will usually be knackered the shoulder gets rounded.

Thanks for that mate, what you say makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that Hozelock use a different thread for this connector to the one that screws onto a tap.
And that the grey connectors are harder to get hold of than rocking horse poo.
In order to guarantee working next week, I had better buy a new reel.
I've a good mind to buy an identical one, and take the old one back after a couple of months, while the new one is still under warranty.

I have been known to 'borrow' the odd connector. Buy a new reel then take it back again  ;)
Trouble is if you can't solve the over pressurising thing it only takes five minutes to blow the new one off. I even used to blow the reels apart with an air lock. Pump just kept going untill the spool would separate  ;D
God knows why they change the thread just for that piece. Would be good if you could get some kind of adapter to take a brass tap fitment.

Part number 2 in all the diagrams is the inlet connector for the reel. It looks just the same as a tap connector and is in fact identical except the numpties put a different thread on it where it attaches to the reel and normally make it grey.

I use Algarde silicon 6 mm o/d, but there again I have done for years.
I will take all the hose off the reel tomorrow and check it. the last time I had problems there was a kink in the 6 inch length of standard hose before it connects to the microbore.
Has anyone found a way of eliminating that short length of standard hose? I can't think of any other way I can connect microbore to a hozelock spindle.
No, I couldnt find an adapter either.

Yippee I found some brass ones on Amazon.

They should last a bit longer.

Well is'nt just sods law, I went to the tool stall on a local market and asked the guy if he happened to have a 5/8" tap connector, he had something better than that, he had one with two adapters 3/4 and 5/8". I bought a couple for a quid each.
This little orange adapter allowed me fit a 3/4" Hozelock pro stainless steel connector. I have just spent £20 on adapters, and found exactly the right thing for a pound

The only sad thing about this is that these were originally homebase kits, so it's safe to assume that if they are for sale on the market stalls, they have been disscontinued by Homebase.
A very happy conclusion for me though.

Yes it has mate, you were right. I turned the pressure right up and it never looked like popping off. That stainless one should last me out.

But, the O ring will wear out, that won't happen if you fit a swivel from gardiners.  ;)
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

O rings are less than £2.00 for 50 on Ebay, but I will bear that in mind.
I would still need an adapter though because that elbow isn't 5/8"
