How may of you who clean traditionally but with something like an Unger Pole from the ground, regularly check the standard of your work, particularly with the sun on it?

the other month i had a ladder fall and this knocked my confidence  so i then increased using a  harris pole+wagtail  and  i made a point of checking my results,no problems ,no need to correct anything

im still quicker doing it the ladder way than using a pole  . but one day im sure i will switch to just using a pole, probably in 2 or 3 years time ,i reck itll take me 5 years total part-time practice to be as fast as ladders are

i have a few trad poles   /  unger30ft=too heavy if over an hours use, , harris alloy pole= great , Quickie alloy 8 ft = my everyday pole, use it from half way up a ladder,Anza 2ft alloy = dont use it much ,too short

I use to trad pole loads of 1st floor windows and you cant properly clean a window by this method,it is slow, you get blade marks, and you look really desperate leaving the WFP at home after banging on how good it is and then a bit of snow and your back the trad with a pole .Its okay if your customers aren't fussy.but I suppose if your doing them every two weeks then i dont think you would have any problems.

I have checked and the results are poor at anything other than shop front height. Maybe I am just rubbish though

It doesn't do a good job and takes ages, tried it about 15 years ago.

HOWEVER with a wagtail,  it may be ok, I don't know have never tried.

its not ideal but i cleaned my own windows with a trad pole for years before wfp with only the odd smear and line here and there.

lets get this straight!im not advocating using trad poles all the time!most custies dont even notice the upper windows in the winter months!as long as the bottoms are top notch and theres no birdmuck on uppers whats the problem? ;D ;D ;D

as for looking desperate!i couldnt give a monkeys!all i know is theres 3 weeks until a go to new york and im not going to sit on my arse and moan like some on ere!!ive got a workload to get through!! ;D ;D ;D

just go water fed, better results and safer

That isn't the point of the thread.

You get blade marks,

Figured as much. Bit like asking a mechanic to change spark plugs with an 8' extension on the ratchet.

I fan down with a wagtail because I am good at it. No it's not perfect, I explain it wont be, all have been fine and understanding. I don't do it regular on domestics though, but when the going gets tough..........

i believe if you force the learning curve,  ie-  dont carry ladders or other method you would get very good at it .  of course rubbish results at first just like any first attempts .

i would think it would take 2 months of full time poling to go from rubbish to very good results. theres a lot of fine arm movements needed with using a swivel squeegee on a long pole and its VERY tiring especially when learning . iv only been using a trad pole about 30 minutes use in any working day (prefer ladders) so it will take me years to become decently good . but already im confident enough to do 1 house with a pole, next 3 using a ladder,  which is a sign that im going through the learning curve

i take inspiration from WAGGA and his great videos on youtube. looks as though he took many years too till he got good at trad pole work

I pole high inside windows sometimes and get best results by not using any soap in the water.
This makes detailing a lot easier and sometimes it is not even required.
