ive now made a firm decision for the time being!!forecast is max temp of 1 c today.its -5 at the moment!!

this is what im using for now.


vise versa/unger 18ft traditional pole with unger clamp for detailing

bucket with squeegee off/screenwash

25L barrel of warm water(to top up bucket).


any windows at awkward angles will get missed,same for any flat roof windows.


what can we do?its not gonna get warm enough all day until thursday in manchester!! : :

im gonna go out, just dont fancy it, worked everyday last week, some times just a few hours, done ok money wise, just sick of being slow and cold, but its got to be done, im sure i will be sick of staying in by dinner and will go out and do 4 hours

went out as normal, first house froze up, so drove around for a bit, 2nd house same.

 now at home, its nearly 11 o'clock and -3.5 out there.....why did i move back from Spain...lol

I'm in Sale Dazmond. Water freezing on the glass and then water in hose froze after first house. Just come back and will try in a bit with the back pack. Hopefully it will have warmed slightly although the forecast I use says max of -3 today. After not working Thurs/Fri I wanted to catch up a bit with a full day but it's not going to happen.

Ah, but that's where you're wrong.  You've got 'this situation', but why let it spoil what could be a nice day off?  Getting all wound up about it isn't going to change the weather or make you money.

So relax!  Don't spoil what could be a good day off; we're going to put up The Christmas decs today and go for a meal.

I wish, but I doubt it, however I'm feeling pretty 'chilled' right now; pun intended. 

I've done my bit and dragged all the Christmas decs out of the attic and now Wor Lass has the fun bit of sticking 'em all up.

Hi Dan, i think even the rats have emigrated or frozen to death!!!!

I came back from Spain in '97, due to expecting my lad, otherwise wouldve stayed! Mind you, all the lads i worked with are now in thailand, so i would be there now....(my lads got a lot to answer for..lol)

My sons 13 in jan and im on my own with him, and i do plan to go back one day. I loved it out there!

its been harsh out there today!(-4 on a custies thermometer!!)still managed £70(12noon-3pm).its better than nothing also got £10 xmas tip!

its forecast the same tomorrow and wednesday.so trad pole and bucket it is!!

i should be able to use wfp thursday and friday as its set to get up to a barmy 7c!!heres hoping!!!

i enjoyed just getting out and doing a bit as i had the whole of last week off!!

the forecast is back to sub zero temperatures again next week after a bit of a thaw later this week.


at least i can get out and chip away at my workload!!

Well - I had an oil filled rad under my IBC last night (it's on breeze blocks) and another in my van. My backpack was by the radiator in the house overnight.

First job 9 am commercial and water runs onto flower beds and the water from the backpack (which started out at 17 degrees C) didn't freeze on the glass and the 15 litres let me do all top 5 double pane windows.

Encouraged by this I did the bottom windows over the flower beds and grass with the water from my insulated van tank whcih started at 11 degrees C and that was fine too. 10 x double pane windows.

The security gatehouse, the office doors and two pairs of windows by walkways I bladed.

10 am off to first house and did two bungy's trad and took about half an hour and at 10.30 went to do my first res wfp. Thermometer temp minus 3.

Did everything wfp, nothing froze and I swept away the water from the paths and salt/gritted it. I was held up for about 5 mins as a gatelatch froze solid but I took the latch stop away with a screw driver and put it back after.

Then I had a pole hose split and being so cold I couldn't replace it so went home and had a cuppa and used the hot water to replace the hose.

Went out again wfp'ing all windows except blading front doors and patios and gritting/sweeping as I went .

All a bit slow but well over 3 figures so ok really.

Also met Dominic from this forum who was nice and toasty in his big van which has a diesel heater to keep the back warm. Didn't realise who he was - nice guy.

i picked up a fur lined jacket at weekend so was warm today. bit hairy on the ladder at first but i did a bit wiv trad pole+wagtail,bit on ladders and was allrite

just wfp my back windows at 4pm nothing froze didn't use hot either.Live down in Sale,Manchester and -6 now and dropping now its gone dark.
