Anyone elses tank still frozen?
« on: December 05, 2010, 04:46:47 pm »
Checked inside my van this morning for the first time since 27th November and everything including my tank was still frozen!!
So today I've put everything inside my house except tank of course. Ive put hose reel, two back packs, di canister and my slx in my kitchen. Then covered tank with two thick blankets and electric fan heater on half hour on half hour off. Though wont be able to have it on overnight because it would mean leaving window open. I lost a whole week last week so I'm determined to get a full one in this week and more.

If you cover the tank with blankets the heat wont get to the tank to defrost the water. Your insulating it from the warming effects of the heater  ;D

You'll need to work just to pay the new bills you've just created!

Ive taken blanket off and lid off tank. Its still like a big block of ice though. Good job I went out when I did as Ive got a leak from pump hose. Cant be bothered to look at it now though so I've just turned water off on tank to stop leak. Theres always something aint there?

You really should have started defrosting your tank on friday ... took me a couple of days last year to defrost after the extra long xmas break.

Chuck a load of isopropyl alcohol in it. Will help dethaw it. Worked for me last winter.

For all the good that did last night I'm still here sat indoors with no chance of any work till at least Wednesday. Going to have to work like the clappers from there.

Unless you get some heat in your van, it's going to stay like that for a very long time. No point in blankets and that sort of stuff. Get as much heat in there as you can, fan heater, oil rad, tube heater. As long as it's very hot in there. With temps like this it's just not going to thaw on it's own. Ps. Go to screwfix and get a paintstripper. Open lid and help the thawing process even more. Careful you don't melt your tank tho.

Too right chuck a couple of fishtank heaters in there. Why leave it so late in the day?

Heater was on till 12 last night and again this morning till 11 by which time everything was thawed but temps -4 here so no chance of any work today. I will postpone heating tonight because tuesday is going to be similar to today. What a nightmare.
