Steve. Haven't you got the frost protection stat fitted to your PF? I'm talking with Andrew Bramley at PF about fitting the 9KW water heater to my twin pump 650 LT, DI van mount and it includes the frost stat.

Their closed for business today because of the snow though  :( staff couldn't get to work  :)

yeah i have the frost stat fitting to protect. it kicks in automatically at 1c. the only thing i would ask for which i'm having built and sent to me is the same as what the previous poster said about having the hot water circulate round the system at night to keep all the pipe work warm. its a switch that will run your pump on slow and circulate the water back to the tank to keep it all defrosted.

saying that though since i have emptied the pipework at night it has started up first time anyways.

Yeah Andrew mentioned this switch yesterday so I guess I'll get it fitted, I'm guessing you have to disconnect the hose that feeds your hose reel or pole and put this in your tank so you dont start pumping out water while the van is parked up over night?

To be honest it wont make much difference to me as my working parts, pumps DI etc are in a thermal insulated cabinet tank, the decision to go hot was purely about being able to work on the coldest of days without fear of hose reels and brush heads freezing whilst working on a job.

Cracked glass does concern me but I guess once you've adjusted the temperature correctly then this can be avoided

like i say since emptying my hoses mine has started first time as the pipes are clear. just to keep working in freezing conditions is what i needed to so its ticked the boxes

Does the Thermo Pure have a frost stat to protect the water heater pipes? or do you have to make sure the back of your van stays above freezing with an electric fan heater over night?

Looks like I'm have a Pure Freedom water heater fitted to my cold system some time over the next few weeks, but I have also had my eye on a used Thermopure system to use in a second van, just out of interest how much maintenance does the Thermopure require and do Ionics recommend a maintenance schedule for these systems?

mine has no frost stat, i have a tubular heater in the back of the van just to keep it above freezing overnight.  my brother in law has a pro 6 thermo, bought second hand over a year ago; hasn't had any problems whatsoever.  im not sure if ionic recommend a maintenance schedule though.  they claim it can work down to -14.

hi carey for the price we pay for them you  make sure they throw a frost stat controller in and return the hoses back to the top of the tank  all they need to do is make 2 holes and fit two connectors to it depending on what connectors you have on your hoses  on

We have a 600ltr Ionic Thermopure.......it really is a fantastic machine........when we can keep it running

it is charged every nite till next morning some days it will work all day without a problem then on other days it will the heat exchanger will go into it shut down proceedure after just 20mins work then we have to run the van and re-start the  heat exchanger........sumtime 5 or 6 times a day which can be very frustrating its had a new lesuire batt 8 months agao as the batt Ionics supplied died on us after 12 months

now back to the positive............

every other w/c round here this week have been frozen off or snowed in not us today we did 3 of tomorrow's jobs as we are ahead of schedule

i have the same system, the frost stat kicks in and diverts hot water back to tank the only trouble with that in these such low temps is your RO and other filters are still not protected from the cold, i think it would be better if the water was diverted through all filters and RO before going to tank then the whole system would be protected, this is something i will be looking into in the next couple of days.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt
