Thawing Transfer Hose?

Okay my transfer hose is frozen solid.It's a full thirty meters of three quarter inch reinforced clear.

Any of you brain boxes know how i can defrost it?


My IBC'S okay, and my vans okay.The transfer hose is now in the shed (instead of lying out where it froze). Best ideas please?

try and reel it up and pour hot water on it then wrap it in a blanket

Hair dryer.

Or just leave it in your bath overnight to thaw.

Drinks lots of water/beer/milk and then run up and down peeing on it.

Did mine this morning

Pour a warm bath, disconect the hose, coil it up then put it in the bath

Takes about 10 mins to thaw out.

I expect you are right.

I hate trying to disconnect in this cold and thirty meters frozen solid will be a pig to get upstairs.

gazza i agree. It does always pay.

The transfer hose comes from my shed to fill the van at the front of the house.I have got into the habit of leaving it lying on the ground instead of putting it back in the shed, hence it freezing last friday.

As you know my other business (market stall) sells hats gloves socks etc and at the moment is off the scale.I've been doing that for twenty years and have never known a(pre christmass) period like this.

juggling the two things is never easy, and i worry about losing my wc biz which i've been building for three years.That's why i'm always moaning and trying to reduce the workload.As an example i spend all day sundays unloading a van, buying and then reloading. I always have problems in dec and jan when the market is busy (providing it's cold) and problems with holidays.I think that you people could do more to help, in terms of ideas, it's not as if i haven't given you a few.

Okay you asked for it  ;D

Dont let it freeze in the first place. The pipe being outdoors doesn't necessarily mean it is going to freeze even in colder weather than we have been having. Just make sure it is entirely emptied of water after transferring your water round when you fill the van.

Compared to your electric hose reels with dog leg clutches and state of the art van system all these suggestions are simple and blindingly obvious. Don't really know why you need the help from us lesser advanced ones on this?

This is how i work, i ask for ideas, and i try and think of them.

It's easy to think, what can they teach me, but ideas can come from anywhere.Alex was a case in point, he had some great ideas, dave st ives has some great ideas, but they have blind spots and contradictions too.(as do I)

I mentioned to both of them for instance that a roomba was the greatest thing since sliced bread, we are supposed to be cleaning professionals after all.They all but laughed at me.

Mondays (when i'm not seven day like now) is my only day off.My wife liked me to spend it hoovering.I've now got two one for upstairs one for down.

They were invented about ten years ago (so like wfp they are not new) but they have been slow to catch on, and also like wfp they are counter intuitive, so people think- that can't work- just like you can't clean windows with just water.
