When you put prices up you cause a little ripple.
The ripple you cause here is the customer(s) may decide to shop around when this happens. They may also be more demanding on the service expecting more. After all they are paying more and want to see a what they are paying for.
It is not important about the time frame, except giving the customers notice of your intention to put the prices up stating when this will take effect.
When we raise prices we send a letter and information outlining the raise and why and the customer can see clearly why the price increase is required. It detailed down to the last penny about cost of chemicals, fuel etc.
Of course as you are on the residential market you probably do not require a detailed analysis.
You can be either lucky to keep all clients or you may find that you may lose a few especially as we are in a recession.
You also have to realise that other cleaners possibly will be more competitive than you after a raise in prices.
Best of luck

i'd say april is long enough. if you're putting your prices up for a good reason then any time is good enough as you need/want to make a certain amount of profit from each job and if one isn't then it needs to increase or go.
also if the customer can't afford to pay for your services then there is no point hanging it out for another 5 months and then losing them any way.
