Employing someone as a canvasser?
« on: November 13, 2010, 06:10:04 am »
Hello,

Does employing someone as a canvasser sound like a feasible idea?

You could get on with your round, and send your new employee out each day to drum up new business, does anybody do it, or have done it in the past?

Short term, long term or permanent??

There are certain vocations where wages are entirely based around sales, this it the case for many energy canvassing outfits (i know having worked for one myself)

This would seem like the ideal way of boosting productivity??

Anyway, as i said in my previous post, i am new to this industry and still finding my feet so forgive me if i am talking about something that has been discussed a thousand times before, i am learning as much as i can. And f***ing loving it too =)

Thanks

go knock your self,  its the best thing to do, u get to meet the custy, you get to set the prices,  too many people come in to this business as fail as they wont/cant knock and hope that just walking up the street will pick them up 50 custys

unless they top notch canvassers the work will be dotted allover the place. and they will still want paying whatever
even if you picked up just 2-3 a week in a year thats 150 anyway for free

Pay someone else to do it.

Dr Windows pays me X2 the clean value when i get him customers , in the first week i got him over £100 of customers....

You wont look back , but imo try and get two canvessers , ive not been well for the past 2/3 weeks and havent been out canvessing , if you have someone as a "backup" then you wont be in the same boat ;)

id have thought if your business was canvassing you would know how to spell canvass properly. You dont get us window cleaners saying we are wondow cleaners do you?.

Anyway i agree with blue monkey do it yourself..its not as if you dont have the time to do it yourself as you havnt got a round yet. Get out there and knock or better still look for all the sold houses and hit them when the boards go down.

the only reason i say do it ur self is it is ur business and u should be in control,  if getting a manager in to canvess commercial, then this is different   but for domestic,  do it ur self, u will grow with more confidence,  also when doing a house and u see the next door neighbour ask them do they want theres done,  u wil be suprised how many do

Hi Richard,

I like you have other interests so i do use a canvasser. My guy gets a flat rate per hour plus xxxx amount for each house signed up.  When he orginally started he was given a positional contract which set out areas, targets, appearance etc.

the set rate per hour your loosing out....

fair enough its £6 per hour (minimum wage ?) and say they go out for 2 hour a night - £12 , 6 nights a week weather permitting thats £72 a week  £288 pcm...

Alot of money if he doesnt get you any return.

The canvessing for me is a second business (@17 ;)) and a means of making more money.

me and kev have a "contract" but thats just regards to payment , as for area wise  I just choose and go to the area but its all getting a rethink...

I don't lose out by having a set hourly rate, my guy has set targets i spend time with him as & when i can laways measure & evaluate i have more control than guys employing canvassing companies
