Got a can from a lady last week, in a very very large house. She had a beigey, slightly brown carpet through-out, which she said hadnt been cleaned for over 10 years.
Over near the raidiator was a leak at one time(4 yrs ago!), which wasnt treated, and that patch disintegrated in my hand.
There was also evidence that moths had started breeding in the carpet too.
She had a large pot-plant which had since been moved, but left a large rusty coloured circle on the carpet.
This would have been a lucritive job, given the size of the job, but at the time I was on my way to Longleat, and told her to find a carpet repair company to cut out the affected area, and replace it, as she had spare carpet...Then I told her to give me a call.
In hindsight, I was wondering how many other cc's would have told her the same thing?

I used to have a tame carpet fitter who I would work with on this sort of thiing.

Unfortunately he retired and I haven't been able to find anyone else who is reliable.

The trouble with your appraoch is that having let the fish off the hook , it might not come back for another bite.

Correct.

Clean the carpet then she can sort the carpet fitting herself.

Or you learn how to repair carpet which in this case couldnt be too difficult.

Ring her and ask if she has sorted the carpet yet! if she says no then ask if you could organise it for her!

Of course you need to find a reliable person to do the work!!

At least you can control the situation and make some money.

I think she was hoping that I could do miracles, and i didnt want to make matters worse.
She said the insurance company wouldnt pay out for a new one, unless all other avenues had been gone down. To replace the carpet would cost in the region of £10k..
That said, I may just call her back, and see how it's going and offer to do it anyway...she was insistant that she wanted me to do it, as i'm local...as for learning to fit carpet...I have little time to myself as it is
